OT - The QPR Board review

I couldnae give a toss about the ban, Oddball. I don't mind getting banned now and again. But for the future of the Forum as a whole, I really think the Mods have gone totally OTT with this. This particular Board has always been a brilliant setting for debate, helped in no small measure by Brix' excellent Moderation skills throughout. So why tinker with it?

Swords me ould mucha, you really don't get it do you. As I said above, the board has evolved dramatically in the last 12 months away from a predominantly football forum to a forum that now has a high percentage of OT threads. It was becoming more and more difficult to Mod. Some of these OT threads contained comments that some found funny but others found offensive. In the middle of all of this we had others who were deliberately stirring the sh••e. How do you Mod this? How do you keep a level playing field.
All the review did was ask you as the members how you wanted this Modded going forward. Some of you had the suggestion that a sub-forum was needed for OT threads. This was explored and found to be a non runner by the site owner. If he had of sanctioned it I'm absolutely sure we would have one by now. What don't you understand about that?
The few definitions that will be inserted add clarity for our members and Mods. As I said it won't affect 99% of people on here. What don't you understand about that?

OK Swords, to save you having to trawl through the old threads, would you care to just summarise the before and after versions of the rules.

Well there were obviously changes or else why would you have said earlier that Brix is working on publishing the new regulations as we speak?

But insofar as I see it, the previous rules were mainly in relation to sanctions for offending someone via the "isms". Fairly moderate stuff and something that nobody could possibly have argued with. However now, as I pointed out above, one could be banned if the Moderator thinks that someone is baiting someone else. Now that sounds fine in theory but in practice it opens up a whole can of worms. How can one define baiting? For example, someone might have a strong view about a particular player and it goes against the grain of most others who think that player is brilliant. How long do you think it will be before Queens, for example, gets accused of baiting someone with regards to Taarabt? After all, COL has accused people numerous times in the past of deliberately winding him up when they've highlighted how poor Taarabt was in a game. Under the new guidelines, Queens could be banned for an indefinite amount of time just for having a genuine opinion on a player who represents the Club he loves. There are countless other scenarios where these new measures could effectively be used to gag members from expressing their opinions.

But the biggest problem I have with all of this, is that the outcome of the procedure isn't reflecting the debate at all! Whilst some wanted tightening up off off-topics etc and others wanted loosening of restraints, by and large, the majority expressed the preference for the status quo. But that's not what we're getting! And I'm sorry if I sound cynical but that leads me to suspect that the whole thing was a red-herring in order to detract the Mob's attention while a whole raft of undemocratic statutes were hammered through before we even knew what hit us.

I'm not happy at all with this situation.

There was a set of definitions drawn up so that consistency gets applied.

There was also a set of procedures drawn up to allow members to know what to do under any aggrieved situation.

Baiting, to my knowledge, has never been accepted (either for or against popular view).

Mods don't want to intervene and are not on a power trip.

There was a vote about most of this and I'm sure we can add yours to the total to see if it sways anything.

I sometimes log on here to see what looks like a good thread about QPR, open it up to find a willy waving contest that has nothing to do with the topic.

Just a shame as I think it can ruin the general site.

So you're happy to complain about past decisions and events but can't be bothered to get your facts straight and check out what happened?

There's plenty of reading you can do rather than wasting a pretty unified board's time.

If you do that background reading and find that there's a case to answer then raise it in full possession of the facts.

Matt, I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about. To my mind there was no vote taken on the proposed new rules. Unless you're referring to the referendum on the old rules many months ago which was unanimously passed? I supported that one 100% as did everyone else (barring some Saints fan if I remember correctly?).

My complaint here is entirely based around the new regulations that Brix posted up only a couple of weeks ago. No such measures were voted on.
