We've scored something like 20 more goals havent we I think I read? Its definately much better than last year, but I wouldn't say i'm delighted as such. Lots to do.
It's often the case that a new manager will identify a problem (for us it was not scoring enough) and in concentrating on rectifying those issues the team suffers in other areas. Rafa used to talk a lot about balance and all great managers achieve that eventually. Whether Rodgers can solidify the defence whilst keeping the attacking flair remains to be seen. Sounds a lot easier than it actually is
Normally managers start at the bac and get the defence sorted and then work their way up to midfield and forward on the basis that if you don't concede you won't get beat and the rest can be improved slowly. However BR seemed to udnerstand that our main problem was coring goals so recitfied that by signing 4 attacking players in the 2 windows he's had. The real test now will be how he sorts out the defence, especially as he's going to be the first manager who can't shove Carragher in the back and ask him to organise it for them. This is where he's really going to struggle, not finding someone as good in the tackle or head as Carragher, but someone who can organise the defence. This is why I can fully understand why he'd want to look at Williams, knowing he can do this and should take no time to adjust. Agree or not, we certainly need someone who can do that. Football wise, I don't think much has changed. We were playing good football at the begining of the year but we seem more confident with the ball at the back and slowly but surely we're working the ball quicker which in turns opens more gaps when attacking. Hopefully a few more signings, a whole pre-season not intereupted by the Euro's or Olympics will give him type to implement and improve even more.
