Same kind of craziness that means commentators ignore the fact that RVP gave Arsenal their goal when they want to talk about him "making his mark" on his return to the Emirates.

It was acknowledged various times that RVP gave the ball away on the half way line ??

Is that really 'giving Arsenal their goal' ? Really ?

I'd say the linesman had more of a part to play in that than RVP did. Walcott has a yard offisde but you win some you lose some, just like the previous week at Villa when it went it our favour.

If that had been Suarez it would have been given offside and he would have been sent off. Bad rep!

Did they really? The BBC commentator on MOTD2 was Steve Wilson who said of the goal "it all started when Van Persie gave it to Kieran Gibbs."

Also Michael Owen later said on the same programme and again of Van Persie mistake said, "this is his first touch, gives it away and Arsenal went up the other end and scored from that."

Must try harder lad.

The commentators I listened to had the "story" being about RVP's mistake. Until he scored the penalty, and then that became the story and the mistake was forgotten. Hero/villain stories are better than the more accurate "average day at the office for returning ex-player".

Unless you are Wenger, in which case he goes the opposite way and diminishes the return's significance as much as possible, probably out of embarassment for having so little ambition he would sell his best player to a rival team.

Both the BBC and Sky have repped about the Arsenal goal starting with a bad rep mistake by Reppy Van Persie. Which repping commentators were you listening to?

Wenger appears to have let the return of RVP to the Emirates warp his mind. After the match he refused to acknowledge Robin van Persie’s goal after the Dutchman scored from the penalty spot. 'I don’t think he scored, he scored a penalty,’ said the Gunners boss. ‘It counts but it’s not completely the same.’ <doh>

what an embarrassment !!
