Your argument was fatally undermined when you said Man City have a better group of players than both of us It is no coincidence that 1/3 of their goals came from Tevez
Hi Spurf... thanks for the heads up on this site from BBC.... i think i came 9th in the prediction league... will you be running it from here?... if so sign me up.... great job!
Ho Rory good to see you here is a link to the final table on here. http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/48294-Spurs-Prediction-League-FINAL-TABLE
You call me stupid when you have finished below us AGAIN yet think you are better than us?! You have absolutely no evidence for it. Its all very well saying 'we only came 5th because we didn't beat the bottom teams' but Wolves did well against the top teams too so their fans could argue the same. i don't claim to be better than United even though we beat them once in the league.
Clearly not. Arsenal are better, without a doubt. Imo City are ... Not as flash or pretty - But they do a better job of picking up points and winning games. Surely every team can say this.. Sunderland and Bolton should have qualified for Europe - but didn't because the lost form. Blackpool should have been comfortably safe - but weren't because they conceded late goals, and dropped points. The fact that you dropped so many points to lower teams means you shouldn't have finished 3rd.. So should and could have every team... The bottom line is: Spurs didn't have the know-how of how to manage both CL ambition and PL ambition. This comes through experience of being in the CL. They have always had one of largest squads in the premiership, but (other than centre-mids) the squad is bare and lacks consistent quality.
Clearly not. Arsenal are better, without a doubt. Imo City are ... Not as flash or pretty - But they do a better job of picking up points and winning games. OK Four2Three1 No doubt, really? The two league meetings between Spurs & Arsenal produced 4 points for Spurs and 1 point for Arsenal. That in itself turns your comment into pure opinion without foundation. My original comment starts with: 'Going on the evidence of my eyes' In other words it is not based on stats. it is based on my observations when watching Spurs play. Now you can argue that I am biased or mistaken but remember I am a Spurs fan. I have watched every game they have played this season apart from three. Which is probably more than you have as a Man U fan. I am not commentating on other clubs and what they should or could have done simply because I have not seen enough of them. If it is impossible for you to judge a football team except on the evidence of their league position then it really is a waste of time debating on this thread. The argument (my argument) is about performance not results and it is essentially addressed to Spurs fans. This season Spurs have performed on the pitch on a par with Arsenal and had the better of the two games between them. We have outplayed Man City twice and got nothing from the games. There is little to choose between these three teams in terms of quality on the pitch. Arsenal & Man City have scored more goals and acumulated more points hence their higher positions but it does not alter my perception that niether are better than Spurs. Equally Blackpool have taken 4 points from Spurs but it does not alter my perception that Spurs are a far better team. Therein lies the underachievment.
Why can't Spurs' fans just be happy that they had a great first season in the Champions League (by anyone's standards, reaching the quarter finals in a first attempt is impressive). Crashing from the nose bleed inducing heights of the Champions League to a cold and insignificant Thursday evening in the Europa league is nothing short of catastrophic for a club with ambition but maybe you're expecting too much from your club??
but maybe you're expecting too much from your club? Super Injunction I do not EXPECT anything I am a Spurs fan. I HOPE for better as all supporters of their respective teams do. Don't they?
I suppose you're right. as I suppose that's the difference between fans who have tasted success and those who haven't.
Surely, not turning your performances into results means you aren't as good as teams above you? How? In what way? Creating as many triangles? Having the same possesion? Hasn't helped you in the long run though... has it? You may like to move the ball about like Arsenal do...But you don't use your possesion well enough.. So surely you haven't performed as well as Arsenal?
Not turning our performances into results means we have underachieved, which is my point! Did you watch the games between Spurs & Arsenal? In their entirety!
Fair enough... we'll say you've underachieved Still don't see how it makes you the third best team in England.. Arsenal games are your Cup finals... It doesn't suprise anyone when you beat them..
Stick around and you will see. Spurs are on the up ATM we have not been the 3rd best in England for a long time and the best for even longer. The squad we have ATM is the best we have had for many years it's unlikely that we will ever dominate the league for any sustained period, because we always put performance (in the stylistic sense) before results. To understand the Spurs philosophy you have to read Nicholson or Blanchflower. "Football is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom" Danny Blanchflower 'It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Spurs have set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory' Bill Nicholson
It's refreshing for football fans to have that attitude. I share the same attitude. Arsene Wenger once said something along the same lines, to paraphrase, "The imprint you leave in a person's mind lasts longer than the result" I think the derby games last season were a testament to how both clubs play to entertain. 11 goals in the NLD compared to 3 (not too sure) in the Manchester derby. Pathetic really.
How many City games (Vs anyone) have involved 5 or 6 goals shared? Think about that before you start having a sly dig at United.. Blackpool (4) - United (7) 11 Goals there too....
I'm not have a sly dig at United, It would be foolish of me seeing as you have scored more then us this season. However, there is a vast contrast in styles between both Arsenal and Spurs and the two Manchester teams. Some would argue that this has been their downfall, style over substance but hey, with ticket prices being what they are; it's comforting to see attacking football in every single game.
I'm sure you'll agree that, this season alone, United have not been as magical as they were a few seasons back. Maybe that detracts from their excellent defensive displays but still, United are synonymous with exciting attacking flair, somehting they may have lacked this season? Not a dig, just an observation.
