Cheers Oddy - had TP all over the place, just been going round my accounts, doing the sums. I can afford a pint or two at the weekend
6.50 Southwell Bocamix 25/1 Not the most conventional selection but Bocamix has never run a bad race at Southwell, looks on a feasible mark of 107 and represents an in form trainer in Andrew Crook. Bocamix has had 4 starts at Southwell, all over this C+D, where he boasts an excellent record of 2 wins and on the other two starts he was beaten less than 5L so he clearly goes very well here. Although 5lb above his last winning mark (over this C+D), he is 3lb below a mark where he was beaten 4.75L here at Southwell last July so he's definitely feasibly enough treated. He comes here on the back of a couple of Novice Chases (wasn't beaten overly far LTO) and although he certainly hasn't looked a winner in waiting the return to Southwell could definitely see him show his best. Andrew Crook clearly has his horses in very good form with 2 of his last 7 runners winning and it is the trainer's birthday so I'm hoping he's got this spot on to get a winner as a present. The very well backed favourite Makari looks potentially on a very good mark and I think he's going to prove extremely difficult to beat but Bocamix is a lovely e/w price and I'm far happier siding with him at the price. On ground that should suit, Henry Brooke takes the ride and if the return to his favourite venue sees him at his best I definitely think he'll outrun his price tag and hopefully he can land the spoils in this average enough looking contest.
Absolutely STH And I'm being quite disciplined in avoiding handing it straight back! That said ............................ Dubai Kiss in the Ayr bumper has a couple of my shillings on it
5.15 Newbury Mirza 13/2 This looks an each way steal at 13/2 with only 8 running as last years winner Mirza looks to have a superb chance of winning this contest for the 2nd year running on his seasonal reappearance. Last year Mirza won this off a 4lb lower mark of 94 when scoring impressively 1.5L. Last year in the early part of the season he went on to score off his current mark of 98 at Newmarket last June before scoring in a Listed contest at Cork later that month with the subsequent Group 3 winning My Girl Anna back in 2nd. Although his form tailed off last season, he's gotten himself back down to his last winning mark and looks well handicapped on some of the form he showed last season. Richard Hughes, who is 3-5 on board Mirza, takes the ride and Rae Guest has his horses in very good order at present. I'd be very surprised if he was out of the first 3 but I'm pretty confident that he will land this race for the 2nd year running and 13/2 is a lovely price for him to go and do so.
Having said I wasn't betting in it I don't want to now sound like i'm after timing so let's just say the result of that bumper was tremendously satisfying.
Any reason fella? Bath is my local race track and not having a bet in it but Caledonia Lady looks pretty hot in this and My Propeller seems to have come up short in this grade previously..
I looked at that race too Pops, and I have to say My Propeller is one of my fav flatties, but I can't see him winning this. Nor Cal Lady for that matter! I have a small wager on Jwala - class horse who improved with every run last year, and goes well first time out. Just my 2p worth
Or not Better than I expected from Propeller though, and promising for NTO That's it for me - need to start looking at tomorrow's cards! Ayr poses some puzzles, not least of which is the Scottish National. And a good flat card at Newbury, where I will flounder!
Been given MAYFIELD GIRL 6/1 at Thirsk 16:35. Source normally good, horse won at 40/1 last week and they expect it to win again. Ill be going ew bet to nothing myself. Good luck if you get on.
my propeller was just short on propeller juice there....looking forward to the scottish national.... a post later i feel.
LOL todays Stoute horse hacks up at Newbury and I'd all but given up the ghost. Had him a £1 lucky 15 with Contributer so a decentish return. Kyllachy Ris is one for tomorrow, have backed him for the 2000 at 50s on the back of whispers that he shows more than this weeks Nell Gywn winner
I don't know if anyone was watching the 7-10 at Wexford. but the was an accident, one of the worst I've ever seen over a long time following the sport. Approaching, I think, 4 from home, Prince of Leisure seemed to go wrong and staggered violently to his left, right through the field, crashing into a brick wall that borders the track, with a ditch in front of it. Naturally the cameras stayed with the runners, and just before it cuts away, you can see the jock climbing out of the ditch, with the horse still in it. Sickening pictures that ATR have said they won't show it again, but Prince of Leisure almost certainly died. The ATR commentator has just said it's the worst kind of incident HE'S ever seen as well. Note: just confirmed the horse has been put down RIP Prince of Leisure
