I think in an ideal world 'Governments should be about serving the people not ripping them off and lording it', hope that clarifies Jager, and I'm not saying just the Torries are corrupt, but they are at the heart of the problem in this country!...............<ok>

Of course phil it has nothing to do with this, just that I've seen comments here sometimes about Eastern European people coming to live here, most notably about the Romanians . Still maybe it's me overreacting

No phil the Tories are not at the heart of it, all politicians are at it no matter what colour they are. I would say that they inherited a poxy situation, and I voted for the party responsible for it, the reason is I know what the Tories are like, they are not the nasty party for nothing.

Shoot the policians and lawyers is what I think

I think those people who are hardly ever in this country, should not be allowed to have any say, especially those that live in Norway!.............

" £3M For the Funeral of Margret Thatcher ?,

For £3M pounds you could buy everyone in Scotland a shovel

this is not about Tories, labour or any other political party as they all have good and bad sides to them...
this is about a single person who came from a working class back ground who married a multi millionaire and forgot her roots. She became an MP and like all MP's did her duty for her community and she was a very ambitious lady and she fought very hard to be recognized as an able politician in her own party.
A lot of Tory men despised her because she was a woman and not afraid to challenge them.........Now I admire her for that even though i was and still am a member of the labour party.....My problem i have is when she became prime minister and not just prime minister but the very first woman prime minister and i remember paying tribute and saying fair play for achieving that.
Little did we all know that this lady who fought so hard and fairly to get where she was would turn out to be a devil in sheep's clothing and everyone feared her, even her own ministers feared her.
She relished her power and it went to her head that she lost all sense of reality.....no matter at what cost and who would get hurt she had a vision and nobody would deny that, OK something had to be done as the country was producing to much coal and steel that we could only sell on the cheap and the countries growth was suffering. Where she lost it was the way she closed down these industries in a very short space of time with nothing in place for the thousands and thousands of workers that found themselves out of work and she said its a price worth paying.
whole communities were destroyed and the worst hit were the north east and south wales, other areas around the country suffered as well but these two areas were the worst effected......
Now If she had showed compassion and did things over a period of 5 years then people and councils would have prepared for it and even though her own ministers pleaded with her she would not listen....she famously said.." you turn if you want but this lady is not for turning"........now i could go on and on about how her actions destroyed lives but it would take for ever, so please when you see the feelings of some people and the way they hate her then its because they have the memories of what she did......
she should not have this huge funeral but have a private family and invited guests funeral where people whose lives were ruined by her ego should not have to witness...

"Operation True Blue got under way yesterday as a special Cabinet Office committee was set up to coordinate the logistics of her grand ceremonial funeral, to be held next Wednesday" ...."In London, officers will form a “ring of steel” along the ceremonial route from Westminster to St Paul’s Cathedral to prevent disorder" A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "London's police, the MPS, City of London and British Transport Police are working together to deliver a security operation for Baroness Thatcher's funeral. Given the nature of the event, our operation will use a range of appropriate tactics." - Guardian

Pretty pathetic if you ask me! Anyway Jager doesn't understand why I single out the Tory party, well it's quit simple, they have a long history, the Tories represented the more conservative royalist supporters of Charles II, who endorsed a strong monarchy as a counterbalance to the power of Parliament (Cromwell), Between the dates of 1688–1714 Despite the failure of their founding principles, the Tories remained a powerful political party during the reigns of the next two monarchs, particularly that of Queen Anne. During this time, the Tories fiercely competed with the Whigs for power, and there were frequent Parliamentary elections in which the two parties measured their strength. The Tories are part of the political ROYALIST establishment that has DICTATED even when not in power, and until they are relegated to the dustbin of history, this country will never be free! With a Monarchy and Royalist Blue party no more, we can then have a truly free democracy, what we have now is a sham..............<ok>

I have nothing but contempt for the Tories phil, but then I have nothing but contempt for the Labour Party as well, I don't discriminate I detest the both of them. And while I'm at it I think the unions are contemptible as well.

As for the rest of your post phil, you are talking 300 years ago, who gives a **** what happened back then apart from historians ? And what has it got to do with now ? And finally unless you've spent time out of this country you don't really realise what you've got at home. We get fair elections and the ability to empower people, not all countries are the same.

Yes I agree that it was 300 years ago, but how about I talk to you on the repression of popular discontent after 1815, the Corn laws implemented by the Tories, Habeas corpus repealed for first time in English history under these Tories, to understand the historical perspective, is to understand the status quo today, they have not changed, Thatcher was simply a tool for their hidden agenda, of crushing the peasants (working class) we will never be a free society, while we have this Tory party and the Monarchy in control.....<ok>

PS: Dictatorship takes many forms, and I would not class what we have here in Britain today as a Democracy!

give me the old style politics of yesteryear. Thatchers era was the beginning of parties not doing what they are paid to do, Its all about point scoring (a bit like on here really) and not about the welfare of the country and its people. It does not matter these days who you vote for because they looked and said what you want to hear while canvasing for votes because once they get in all the promises go out the window and they are whipped into shape into following the parties policies whether they agree with them or not....
There are not that many out of 600 Mp's today that will stand by their constituencies. There are a few from all parties but very few and far between. Today's politics is a joke and most are in it for the financial rewards instead of making this country a better place to live in.......
Even my own labour party has gone to pot and do nothing but point score. Blair was to me a love child of thatcher as he was more Tory than some of the Tory front bench and i nearly quit the labour party because of him.
You will notice i never use the word New Labour and that is because that was Blair's doing and was not wanted by many labour voters,
I may be a labour party member but that does not mean i dont agree with the Tories or any other party because sometimes i do but today its all about point scoring and not voting for what you believe. There are many Tory front bench ministers i admired over the years but im afraid none today and none in the labour party either.
I'm very sad that if like me have an interest in politics then its been ruined and not the politics we use to have years ago.......we have become a nation of greed and selfishness where nobody cares in parliament anymore....
