We all know by now that blue is not exactly a positive colour in Asia. Well, I learnt the other day that calling someone a bluebird is tantamount to calling them a ****. Is it any wonder they want to get rid of it. And in my view... they will. discuss.
No it doesn't. As the post's title makes clear, it means that it's a terrible insult. Whether it means **** **** or **** mens ****all, frankly.
Where did you hear that Glam? I know a Malaysian guy and he didn't think being called a bluebird was an insult?
How can I (or anybody) gauge how insulting it is if we don't know the word. Why not 'spill the beans'?
He was a Malaysian lad (although born here). We got talking about what was happening at City and he said that in certian parts of Malaysia it's a terrible insult. He didn't tell me what it was exactly because I had two boys with me... so I didn't exactly persue the matter. However, suffice to say that it was not how you'd address your Gran.
GLAM.........I may have an explanation (or a theory at least). I've been scouring the internet & it looks as though one of the largest Taxi firms in Malaysia are an Indonesian Taxi Company named BLUE BIRD TAXI'S. I delved further & apparently Malaysian Taxi drivers have a repution of being among the worst in the world safety, robbery etc. etc. & the worst reputation of all seems to lie with BLUE BIRD TAXIS. I'm almost certain that the Bluebird is not native to Malaysia, therefore the only association Malaysians have to a Bluebird are rather dodgy & dangerous Taxi drivers. Does that make sense. ...busy day at work obviously
It was made clear that Asians think of blue as a sign or mourning. If a male would prefer to be called a little bird than being called a dragon then that is his choice. A bluebird has no significance in Cardiff or Wales. jck
Neither has the dragon jack (it's actually a mythical creature http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon ) but it's still on our Country's flag
