I'm more concerned with this weekend. I reckon a minutes silence will try to be enforced which obviously a lot of people will object to. However, there will also be respect paid to remember Hillsborough this weekend and I see the powers that be trying to merge the two. This would obviously not be acceptable and I'd proposed chanting "Justice for the 96" rather than participating in a silence and, if they chose to go this route, a minute applause.

Majeski has already said there will be a 1 minute Hillsborough tribute, and there wont be ANY Thatcher tribute, apparently he wasnt too happy about it but realised it was the best thing to do

Fair enough <ok>

I agree that there are bigger problems than people taking advantage of benefits too, just highlighting that that is what people see and get pissed off about <ok>

There's good reason why "that is what people see"...because that's what the media wants you to see <ok> as I said before they don't highlight the real scum in the country because the real scum have money, influence and power enough to stay out of the limelight.

A ****ing joke.

We pay for some snivelling Tory to fly back (Business class of course )early off his Easter jollies, so that he can engage in the hastily arranged Thatcher fawning competition in Parliament. You couldn't make it up.

Sychophantic creeps the lot of 'em.

Sickening

Coming from me, it has noting to do with the media as I don't read papers or listen to news etc. I am commenting from personal experience of real life (two of my mrs' sisters are doing it and they're are not alone in their circles either) and social network sites (had numerous arguments about this topic) where people are posting theirs views and opinions much like on here. No doubt, some of these people will be influenced by the media though.

Fair play mate <ok> it was a general comment not aimed at you but it still very much stands. Yes it's an issue that should be addressed but certainly not the biggest issue this country faces (not by a country mile).

There will always be those who will exploit the system, but the amount of money the scroungers take from the overall economy is minimal. They're wrong in principle but almost irrelevant in practice. The right wing demonising of them is a red herring designed to deflect from the fact that huge amounts of public money are continuously channelled into the pockets of the already wealthy.
The point that keeps needing to be made is that benefit cutbacks will hit the majority who are genuinely needy, not just the few who are milking it.
Everybody's anecdotal evidence of knowing someone who is a scrounger just deflects from the real issue.

Most of the news publishing companies in the country are owned by a very small group of very wealthy men who are sympathetic towards business and make use of tax avoidance schemes themselves. Is it any wonder that they demonise the disenfranchised ahead of themselves and their cohorts?

The biggest issue with the free press is that it's only as free as the owners allow it to be, and the rest of us suffer under their mandate.

Valid point <ok> Is CO Connecticut? If so, who's your team?
