Not the most glamorous or talented of footballers, but has played at the top top level of English football all his career.
Speaks well whenever I hear him on the radio and you'd think would match his brother for tactical analysis.
If we sell Hammond, Chaplow, Butterfield and Richardson then perhaps he could be a useful squad back up.

Good idea or stupid idea?
 
Doesn't fit our profile...young, quick, talented and good looking (that last one may just be for me). I was amazed to realise that he had been at Everton for eight years...he joined them in our relegation year.

I am surprised so many people have jumped to "no way". Neville be just too far in terms of age or fitness, I don't know, however when I first saw he was leaving Everton, I wondered the same as the OP.

I like our profile of young and energetic, yet I also believe it would be absolutely brilliant to have an older head in there with them. They don't have to be a starter, but in the squad and used occassionally.

If we had a player like this, Neville, Murphy, the Greek lad at Fulham, I wonder if we could have seen out a few of those earlier games. Let's not rush to dismiss the value of experinece blended with youth. Take this forum, we know Beddy Fran and Godders don't have the legs any more and they ususaly sit in the corner mumbling, but every now and again they come in and help us out with their exerience :emoticon-0105-wink:

I don't mumble. I dribble and fart a lot and spill food and drink down the front of my cardigan but me mumble? Never!

I agree with FLT, if his wages were reasonable I'd probably take him. Would be decent cover for central midfield and full-back positions and he's a great pro, would be a good influence on our young team. A similar kind of signing to Butterfield. Whether he would come to sit on the bench is another matter though.
 
This Southampton team don't do journeymen, mercenaries (not that PN is a mercenary, but that element exists in all near-retirees), or non-top four rejects. And I stand by that. Why even be seen in print as competing with Hull for a player, for heaven's sake?!
 
Would be happy to see him here. Versatile player that can add influence in and around the first team squad.

Don't think we'll be going for him though. Cortese won't allow it.
 
I would be annoyed if we signed him. We can only register 25 players for The PL and would be a waste of a space IMO. We could use that spot for a player who who will be with us for more than a season or two.
 
Not too fussed either way. We've previously kept Butterfield around for his experience and appear to be doing the same again with Kelvin. Neville could fill a similar role with the difference that he can still play a bit and has actually won things.
 
Why would we actually need him?, we have another up and coming rb . That I beleive should be looked at before we buy some 30 odd player coming to the end of his career. Then in cm he would only be back up, so we would have a player on around 30k as back up. No thanx.
 
I don't think it's a player we need and a 36 year old would probably not suit Poch's high pressing style. Someone in the Prem might be interested but it's not the kind of signing Saints have made in the last few years.
 
The fact that Villa and Newcastle are in for him says it all - the ultimate meadow clubs, where players like PN are put out to pasture while maintaining some semblance of their previous wages, and sitting injured for two seasons and being 'invaluable' in the dressing room. Add to that list of suitors QPR and Hull, and I think we know how interested The Don is going to be in him.
