Unlike the £100+M club in Henderson, Downing, Carroll, Borini, Shelvey, Aquilani and Allen who were found out long before they had any chance of getting there.
The curse of Comolli strikes again...

All I'll say is, he's a £6 mil bullet dodged. Bit like Siggy.
Firstly, No, I agree, Dempsey is not good enough to be playing for a team with CL aspirations.
Secondly, it's the old conundrum, do you spend the big money and hope that gets you CL football, or do you go for the CL football - along with it's guaranteed millions - and then spend the money? Levy has obviously opted for the latter. So far, it looks like a strategy that's going to blow up in his face - again!
With the Goons reportedly ready to spend big this summer - you can also assume that there'll be no let up in either Chavski or City's spending either - if Levy seriously expects the team to be CL contenders, he'd better blow the cobwebs off of his cheque book!..

Not quite.
We got CL and he didn't spend that money. That was a HUGE mistake.
Now we are trying to get back in the CL without spending money. Its like trying to ice skate up a hill.
Our transfer window the summer we qualified for the CL still haunts me and by the looks of things will continue to do so for the forseeable future. We desperately needed NEW STRIKER then and we had the CL money (ok, we had to beat Young Boys but that is as close to a CL windfall as we were likely to get) and we had the lure of CL football. Levy ****ed up imo.
That season we had a great run in the CL, we showed that the squad was capable for the most part. We finished 5th and just missed out despite the midweek distraction. With NEW STRIKER i think we would have got 4th again.
I've not been impressed with him in a Spurs shirt, but kept quiet, because he needed to settle in (even though he's been playing long enough in the EPL not to need too much time). But it has become increasingly clear to me that he isn't good enough to help us match the ambitions we have for regular CL footy.
He's not a bad player, and would be more than good enough for the likes of 'Pool or Everton. He just isn't a Top 4 player.
What we need is a top striker, and if that means spending big money to get him in, so be it. I cannot believe that Levy cannot see that. For me, Dempsey was Levy's attempt to buy goals on the cheap, and it rarely works, not at this level.
Mr Levy, if you are not prepared to spend good money on a top striker, then please do not expect us to finish in the Top 4. It really is as simple as that.
And you're not a top 4 club.

Where did we finish last season then? Where are we this season? I was under the impression 4th was in the top 4? Am i wrong?
And you're not a top 4 club.
And you're not a top 4 club.
We finished 4th last season and are 4th in the league at the moment, how would you define it?
Edit: Woops already been pointed out.
Since when was "top 4" defined as "consistently top 4 over a 40 year period"?
2 seasons in 40 years?
Yea. And two places above the most fortunate "champions" of Europe you'll ever see!..
"We got CL and he didn't spend that money"
He spent ~ 15m of the 30+ made in the CL on land purchase for new WHL.
Tis all in the 2011 financial reports for those who can be bothered to read it.
Whether said land should have been purchased then, or deferred til later, is
another story.
