I've not been impressed with him in a Spurs shirt, but kept quiet, because he needed to settle in (even though he's been playing long enough in the EPL not to need too much time). But it has become increasingly clear to me that he isn't good enough to help us match the ambitions we have for regular CL footy.

He's not a bad player, and would be more than good enough for the likes of 'Pool or Everton. He just isn't a Top 4 player.

What we need is a top striker, and if that means spending big money to get him in, so be it. I cannot believe that Levy cannot see that. For me, Dempsey was Levy's attempt to buy goals on the cheap, and it rarely works, not at this level.

Mr Levy, if you are not prepared to spend good money on a top striker, then please do not expect us to finish in the Top 4. It really is as simple as that.

Just couldn't resist could you? You do realise you drew with Everton today and are only a couple of wins ahead of them.

Agreed. Dempsey from day one this season has looked like a square peg in around hole. He has no idea how to play the Tottenham way. We should have tried harder to bring Berba back when we had the chance. Instead we opted for a second rate player. Yet again, we capitulate at the end of the season and will now rely on other results. Levy is never going to understand the need to buy quality if you want to build quality.
 
Firstly, No, I agree, Dempsey is not good enough to be playing for a team with CL aspirations.

Secondly, it's the old conundrum, do you spend the big money and hope that gets you CL football, or do you go for the CL football - along with it's guaranteed millions - and then spend the money? Levy has obviously opted for the latter. So far, it looks like a strategy that's going to blow up in his face - again!

With the Goons reportedly ready to spend big this summer - you can also assume that there'll be no let up in either Chavski or City's spending either - if Levy seriously expects the team to be CL contenders, he'd better blow the cobwebs off of his cheque book!..

He was an embarrassment today and how he remained on the park and not subbed is beyond me.
 
Dempsey impressed last season as an automatic choice down the left for Fulham in a 4-4-2.
He's played sporadically for us, we don't use that system and he's often been flying all over the place to play for the USA and coming back knackered.

He had a pretty poor game for us today and I'm not even sure where he was supposed to be playing, but I don't think that our team selections are helping him.
We seemed to have nobody down the right and several players trying to move into the same space, with Sigurdsson cutting in and Dembele pushing forward from midfield.
Dempsey and Holtlby were already in the gap behind Adebayor, so we had too many men in there and none out wide.
 
You are being too kind to him. Everything he touched today turned to ****, and he didn't even work for the team. To compare him with Holtby is unfair on the youngster who put a really decent shift in for 94 minutes. Dempsey gave us nothing today and it had little to do with where he was meant to be playing!!
 
Dempsey is not good enough for Spurs, he was a last minute panic buy (probably when it appeared other targets were unavailable or too expensive) and should be playing for a club of the level of Sunderland or Liverpool.

He chips in with a few goals, but they are mostly tap ins and deflections. He offers little else, and just does not fit Spurs style.
 
Give the bloke a chance . Daniel Knows how to save a few quid and this boy is his baby. He's off ball play is to be admired .
This is the man that will fire! us to glory eventually. Daniel saved us a lots of dosh when he pulled this one out of the bag,
pushed out 70min VDV with a 4 million profit , kushdi .
That will keep Uncle "hide it under the bed " Lewis in Krug Grande for a few more years. Have it!.

Like Ashley Young, Gary Cahill, Scott Sinclair and others he got a move to a top club on the back of one outstanding season where he thrived on being the big fish in a small pond. Like the others, he's failed to reproduce that form consistently, if at all.

For a second I was wondering what on earth I was reading!

For me it's quite simple. Dempsey scored goals for an average club and therefore stood out amongst other players who were also average. Unfortunately, levy was fooled by his statistics. You can look at any video round-up on you tube of Dempseys goals and they are all very scrappy. He's either tapping it in from 6 yards, or sliding on his arse and bundling it into the net. As a club, those aren't the sort of chances/goals that we tend to create/score. Our football is usually played in a way where we find space for a strike from some clever football prior to the effort at goal.
Unfortunately for Dempsey, he also lacks any pace. We're a counter attacking fast team who play wingers - so not much hope for him there. In addition, his close ball control and technique is also distinctly very average which doesn't suit our technical, passing style of play. Finally, he doesn't seem to be a particularly intelligent footballer either.
Unfortunately he offers us absolutely nothing because he just doesn't fit in. He's not a "tottenham player". Because he is so different, he's actually detrimental to our play IMO. Everything about him is too slow and it actually hinders our style and suffocates us, rather than doing us any good.
However, I don't think he's a bad player, he's just not good enough for what we need to meet our expectations. For his own benefit, he needs to be at a different club.

The irony is Dempsey wouldn't get near a Liverpool XI at the moment, probably not even an Everton XI either.

I don't think Dempsey has done a lot wrong, he isn't good enough for this level IMO but there was a period where he was the only one scoring for Spurs.

Yeah because we play one up front <laugh>

I'm delighted we didn't go in for him in hindsight.

I think he will leave Spurs end of the season, maybe next, and then move back to US.

Spurs have ruined his career!

Whilst I would agree that we should, in hindsight, never have signed him, it is total bollocks to say that Spurs have ruined his career. He's simply been found wanting at the higher level that he thought he belonged with.

Usual Mouser wummery!...
