MON's reign was a big disappointment. Might have turned out differently if he'd been given time, but we'll never know.

Wish him all the best though, as he really did save our collective arse last season.

It will remain the biggest single disappointment of my SAFC supporting life mate. Wanted him here for over 15 years and when we eventually get him something happened to just suck the life out of him.

I wanted him to turn it round so badly (did it show Lol) and sad that he failed with that. An honourable man with dignity and class I wish him only but good times for his future.

But, like with all football clubs, the king is dead - long live the king and all that we have to move on with Paolo Di Canio. A new beginning (about the 16th one for me) and a new hope.

Sundays game cant come around quick enough for me now so we can get on with the footy for a change.

Seems to be happening a lot with us over the years mate turning perfectly good managers and players into ****.

So MON is frustrated and disappointed now. The fans were frustrated and disappointed most Saturdays Martin.

When he came to us I thought he was the man to take us to the next level , sadly for him and the club he wasn't that man.

It seems to be the thing with clubs like ours (Sunderland,Norwich) and you can add Stoke,Southampton,Reading as well that they expect miracles from managers.None of us possess the quality to challenge for honours at this level and it's a constant fight to survive. It's wrong to blame the managers when things don't work out as we would like.Hughton is catching it from our lot because the games are dire but we just can't compete with the top six and we have to glean enough to survive from each other.

Think the timing took everyone by surprise to be honest but, I think judging by what he has said there he knows he wasn't getting anywhere near the results he should be getting.
Still think he would have kept us up would have been close though, never mind new manager in now and hopefully a better end to the season than the start.

You're right Talc. Can you remember a while back I posted a thread about him offering his resignation? It was on Talksport.
My mate came up with the theory that that may have well been the case but was persuaded to hang on until someone else had been secured & do you know what?
I really think she might be quite correct in her thinking.

The difference here was that this was boardroom lead. The majority of the fans wanted Bruce out and it was vocal, not so with MON. Only if we survive will this decision be proved correct.

So if we do go down who will you hold accountable then? PDC?
Cos I'll tell you this for nowt. Under MON we were heading down the ****ter faster than a bad dose of the skitters.

this is a very good point, for me its all on Ellis now! its his ship and this is how he thought fit to steer it!

I personally think we would have went down after last saturday, now Mr Short has given us a chance imho

Yes remember that mate it was just before a home game was it not City? think you got slated for saying so as well, maybe like you say he was asked to stay with us until ES found someone to take over. Like everything though I doubt we'll find out anytime soon.
Like Cest I wanted MON to succeed but, as with all things SAFC he found it too hard a job, to be honest I think SAF with Mourinho as his number 2 would have found it difficult. The entire squad save 2/3 players are far too mediocre for us to do anything worthwhile, that is down to MON yes and previous managers.

Shame his career appears to have ended on this note but unusually for him he failed to produce a fighting team. He was always my choice for us as I had seen him from his Wycombe start and his enthusiasm was infectious. He maybe had a plan and was thwarted by the quality of response of the current players leading to the present situation.

never was much of a plan was it,you dont exit players from the club without replacements to come in , the same applies to mr short he did have a replacement

I get your point, but you haven't spent £30m this season have you?

Stoke are similar to us in that they've spent bucket loads and have yet to progress that's the frustrating thing

Just listened to the full interview. He handled himself very well, I still have a lot of respect for MoN and I'm absolutely gutted he failed with us. I would have given him till the end of the season but fair play to Short he wasn't going to risk it.

Really hope he gets another job and succeeds, would be horrible if his last job was us.

I disagree with this.

For me we had enough to be comfortably mid table ok top 6 is hard to get but we should be nowhere near bottom 3 we have spent something like 160 million (not including what we got back) in 6 years and yet we are still languishing near the relegation zone.

You also mention honours i take it by that you mean cups.

Swansea/Bradford in the final of the League cup

Wigan/Millwall semi final of FA Cup if Chelsea get top 4 and Man City have top 4 already then one of those will be in Europe next season.

Birmingham/Portsmouth have both won those cups quite recently.

We (and i count the toon in this) havnt won nothing for 40 years. Something seriously wrong there for me but we definately have the teams/squads to do it. it is not out of our reach and we dont have a hope in hel.l
