A big game for us, an even bigger one for QPR. Fail to win against us and it really is hopeless for them. We of course can lose some games and still manage to stay up - but we face some different challenges this time around with an FA Cup run still ongoing.

They're coming off a couple of defeats - away to Fulham and Villa - but previous to that they had a couple of wins - at home to Sunderland and away to Southampton. Probably the Southampton one is the most surprising, given how well the Saints have been playing. Sunderland are dire, and Wigan - hopefully, if the right Wigan turns up - will provide a lot more of a challenge.

Bobby has stuck with the team which served us well in the Cup against Everton but this might be the time for a change or two. Joel would seem to be first choice keeper just now, and Alcaraz has been immense since he came back. Scharner looked leggy against Norwich - but pretty much the whole team seemed to be suffering from post-break syndrome. I expect them to be a lot fresher come Sunday. I'd be looking to bench McManaman for di Santo, and Gomez for McArthur. More muscle and closing down in the midfield. Di Santo will run Samba ragged.

On paper they of course look like they should be much higher up the division - some really talented players like Taarabt, Remy, Mbia and Zamora (though they don't seem so keen on him). But Wigan have frequently made light of differences in apparent squad quality. A collection of talented individuals will always get trumped by a team playing well together. Probably. :)

Very difficult game to predict. As I've pointed out before Wigan went to both Villa and Reading and turned them over, when all the commentators expected much tougher matches. So we're capable of upsetting anyone. But this is the stage of the season where form gets overtaken by desire on the day, so I'm going to say I'll be happy with a draw.
 
Avoiding defeat relegates QPR - along with Reading - IMO.

You are better than Villa and Sunderland are in freefall, so get a result from this game and you should stay up.

You are as good a footballing side as Swansea or WBA- who are top ten- so I would hope you will stay up.

I think we're better than WBA :) Wish we had their points though..

QPR and Harry seem to be underestimating us. They're all looking beyond this game. I wonder if it'll count against them? In fact, I wonder if part of their problem is that their stars don't feel like they've got anything to prove? they certainly act as if they just have to turn up sometimes.

They are arrogant and looking at the 'trickier games' after they win at Wigan. Their fans see this game as banker in their battle v relegation.

In a way it is, if they lose this the other games may not matter
 
It's odd to watch a collective psychology which runs along the lines of "we have to win this game to have any chance of staying up, therefore we will win this game, therefore we'll get defensive with anyone who anyone who suggests different".

It's a cracking game for Wigan. We do tend to enjoy these games where the pressure's on. London though is not often a happy hunting ground for us. Unless its WHU.

Kiwi do like the rest of us do and put the muppet on 'ignore'. He has been on the Reading/Saints/Fulham board making up rubbish. The bloke is a #### who cannot get over the kicking he got by some Rangers fans. However let him say what he wants because none of us really care about what he says. Don't give him the platform just ignore.

As for Wigan they seem to be doing the usual end of season fight back. I like the team/Manager/set up at Wigan and on their day can beat anyone as they have proved in the past. Hopefully they will have an off day and we can get the result. If we lose then that's it for us but if Wigan lose I still see them getting out of the relegation.
 
Good luck Wigan - I think you will survive again.

As an earlier poster mentions Sunderland are in freefall (though they may get a bounce from the fascisti) and Villa are erratic - I think it's between you and those two for the third relegation spot, and I predict that you will be OK.
 
Must say one thing that you are correct on HP form will always take the back seat to desire at this stage of the season for us it always will because that as what as kept us in the prem all these season . so i`me going to go for a win and a good win nothing else will do can`t name who will score for us hopefully all the lads will be up for it so who knows. maybe 2-0 or 3-0.
 
So Villa's win means that QPR are now eight points and a minus 13 goal difference away from safety. Though if they went on a miracle run, and two out of four from Wigan, Sunderland, Villa and Stoke suffered a complete collapse, the goal difference would probably be wiped out. So "just" the eight point gap to make up.

No idea if that means anything at all to the game tomorrow. They could -

Be galvanised to go after their last chance with everything they have;
Be beaten before they take the field;
Be released from concern about relegation and play with natural freedom;
Be a bunch of cynical mercenaries and mope around while we stick four past them.

SO as usual, best to concentrate on what we can do ourselves rather than being overly concerned about the opposition. Kone, di Santo and Maloney, both the Jimmy Macs and good performances out of Boyce and Beausejour please.

Exactly right HP lets just concentrate on our side of things that way we can get ourselves out of our annual i wouldn't say mess but more of a predictable situation that seams to be our way of doing things but i still think a 2-0 or 3-0 will do us right.
 
Jesus, we were poor From. What a bloody awful performance. Two points dropped. They were there to be beaten - particularly after they went down to ten men. In spite of the fact that this was their "make or break" game, they were essentially awful. I expected much more from them. For us to fail to take three points is a real kick in the teeth - and for us to have to scrap back to take a point just feels like an insult. Bobby obviously had them on a short leash, instructing them to keep possession, take the heat out of the game and avoid losing at all costs. I think he overestimated them too. When they go down to ten men, and it's clear that they don't really have much of a threat about them, he should be able to change the plan - certainly at half time. We had a golden chance to take three points, and we very nearly blew it completely.

And Gomez and McManaman were both poor. Wonderful strike from Remy - but just confirms what I felt before the game - they have some very talented individuals. But God, how we managed to make them look good I'll never understand.

Thanks Sean Maloney. Hope the team he sends out at Wembley next weekend makes a far better fist than that. Off to bed now - and tomorrow can begin to look forward to that game.

A bit unfair. Did you actually watch the game? Obviously not at LR as only about 20 of you turned up.
Townsend was outstanding and walked round your players time after time. Jenus was mr cool and stopped your midfield from being effective. Other than the goal you had one chance on target. We had 10 men and scored a fantastic goal and you scored with a free kick 10 secs from time.
You didn't make us look good, we were good. maybe you should follow rugby.

Sounds like you didn't actually watch it to me.
When we went down to ten you should have gone for it. Let's hope that lack of ambition costs you dear. I certainly hope so.
And by the way, don't ever recall seeing that few away fans at Loftus Road ever. Joke support.
 
I was at LR, and we conspired to make you look good.

As I say, I expected better from you, since it was such an important game. I don't think you played well - and if you do, then maybe that explains why you're in the place in the league you are. I do know this - Wigan were well below par. We clearly had been instructed to keep possession, slow the game down and take the heat out the crowd - not that your crowd was very heated. I can recall the odd "come on you Rs" and a round of "stand up.." but apart form that, a very subdued crowd.

Which is what I said. we didn't change our plan even when we had an advantage, plus your lot weren't presenting too much of a threat. We should have responded to that by going for the three points because they were there for us. Instead we carried on playing to avoid losing.
 
£PR fans at Newcastle. Even less 300 odd at Sunderland for Harry's first Prem game (no wonder they are going down with fans like that)
