Rangers stands firm over "Scotland's most successful club" claim as Rangers has maintained that it is "Scotland's most successful football club" as the advertising campaign making the claim is probed by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).

Earlier, the ASA confirmed to The Drum that it was investigating the radio and press campaign following 62 complaints about the claim by the club to be Scotland's most successful club.

James Traynor, director of communications for Rangers was in no doubt of the club's stance when he responded to The Drum's request for a reaction to the investigation.

He stated: “Rangers Football Club can confirm they have responded in full to this ridiculous claim and we know the Advertising Standards Authority will take the same view as the football authorities, the European Club Association (ECA), Lord Nimmo Smith and the panel of the London Stock Exchange. For the avoidance of doubt we stress again Rangers FC is Scotland’s most successful football club.”

The campaign ran following the liquidation of Rangers, which led to the new holding company being formed as a result and buying the assets to the club, before being accepted into the Third Division by the Scottish Football League. This has led to consternation among fans with many claiming the club to be the same as before, while many claim otherwise (see the comments here for example.)

As a result of the complaints received, the ASA will now have to determine whether Rangers are entitled to describe themselves as "Scotland's most successful club" or not, which could lead to the campaign being banned from running again featuring the claim should they rule against the club.

It is all rather sad and pathetic. Some of these ****s should take a day off from their petty hatred.

Lets hope the ASA don’t read this, from Traynor on the 13 June 2012.;

“Rangers FC will slip into liquidation within the next couple of weeks with a new company emerging , but 140 years of *history , triumph and tears will have ended. No matter how Charles Green attempts to dress it up, a newco equals a new club. When the CVA was thrown out, Rangers , as we know them, died.”
