Very rare that I agree with Savage, but some of what he said of MOTD2 last night I did agree with it. Managing in the PL will be very different for Di Canio than in L2. If he tries he sub his goalkeeper after 20 minutes, or gets into a fight with a player on the touchline, it will only end badly.

I don't think all of our squad truly respected Sturrock and his methods, and do thinks like above, and I can see some of the Sunderland players quickly turning against Di Canio.

I agree with this statement but would have to add that it took Adkins more than 7 games to come to terms with the PL. Sturrock quickly lost the respect of the players as he had no experience of PL football. Di Canio has played at the highest level and will instill the fear of god in to his players. However this is a massive step up from Swindon and with no time to learn his trade in the PL think that this move will certainly doom Sunderland. I think they had zero chance with O'Neill for that matter!

The Championship will be fascinating next season if Sunderland go down. Assuming Redknapp is unable to save QPR (I'n not so convinced about them going down) and with Adkins relegated with Reading, I would suggest that the competition for the top, automatic promotion places will be intense. I wouldn't want to be getting out of that league next year!!

Sunderland were on an apparently unstoppable slide to oblivion, relying on teams below being worse than they were. If di Canio gets even a small extra % out of the team, I think they will be okay. What happens next season is the question.

Eh? So when are the Skunks playing Gateshead? Or could you possibly mean the Tyne Wear derby..

Lol. yeah blame my ignorance for that one :) Tyne Wear derby. Shall remember that from now :) Learn something every day even at my age

I thought that Sunderland played well against Utd (second half anyway), Buttner palyed well aswell but has nothing on Shaw so hats off to NC for not being bullied. MON has a great record but as someone else mentioned, he may be unwilling to change tactics and is being found out by savvy managers

I think O'neil falls into the category of Curbishly, MCarthy and all the other managers that got linked with every vacancy over the last 10 years. Football has moved on but their methods have not which is why a few of them head up struggling teams. They are probably a good bet in the Championship but not in the Prem.

Its hard for someone to change their methods when they used to be succesfull. O'neil couldn't change hs methods and Sunderland would have been relegated under him. I think Di Canio will motivate them to get a couple more wins which woluld probably do it. As someone said earlier, it will be next season that will be interesting for Sunderland.

Talking of Buttner, if we had signed him its very likely that Shaw would still be playing for the under 21's. A good lesson for the future maybe.

The Sunderland appointing Di Canio storm just carries on and on doesn't it.

He'd be better off admitting it and saying he's moved on. Press will bnever leave it alone now he's at a PL club!

I agree, can't believe its still dominating the headlines today. He walked out of an interview with the press still firing questions at him about, they will not let this lie. I know they wanted rid of MoN, but this could end very badly for Sunderland.

The press love a "cheeky chappie" manager like RedRat and Hollaway, but its really difficult to love PDC. He gives nazi salutes, sides with italian ultra thugs, admits he's a facist (but not a racist - as clearly no previous fascist regime has ever been racist!!) Professes to admire Mussolini, and says mussolini was a principled leader, and has PDC's admiration!

On the footballing side he has very little experience, and what little he has is in league 2.

Remember the pure hatred from the press when Lowe put Dave Jones on gardening leave whilst he fought the trumped up child abuse charges and brought in Glenda?

Sunderland will get a dogs own abuse from the press and most neutral fans due to their employing this odious little man.

Disagree. I think the press should shut the **** up and focus on the football. The man isn't going to try and invade Europe.

Well there's optimism for you.

Football in the premiership is a three ring circus, and the press will use every angle to promote a "story" in order to sell papers. Good news doesn't sell papers. thats why the ongoing hatred for benitez gets so many column inches. Glenda was hounded out of the England job because of non football related comments. People in the public eye have to face the fact that what they say in public WILL be used against them. I hate the tabloid press, but you have to be aware of how they behave when you are in the public eye. It would be nice if it wasn't so, but it is.

Expressing facist views, performing nazi salutes and expressing admiration for a bloodthirsty dictator is never going to be a good career choice!

England could become a Muslim country as well, you don't see me do the crazy **** he has.

I doubt it. Muslims have only been immigrating here for a few decades. Give them a couple of generations and they'll all secularize.
