Yep, they should be panicking about now. Based on recent performances they're probably the worst side in the league.

I'm hoping Villa can stay up with us, Wigan really shouldn't be a premier league team.

They have 3 points from their last 7 games, if I was a Sunderland fan i'd be worried.

    True, but also fairly irrelevant.

Four more wins from here takes them to 39. Norwich, QPR, West Ham, West Brom, Swansea, Villa. Even Spurs at home. There are four wins there, maybe even five should they need to break the 40 point break barrier (right now is the first time in months, maybe even all season, where I've started to doubt if 38 or 39 points will be enough - all depends of how quickly Sunderland can get some form together).

I was at the pub last night with my Sunderland-supporting mate, and he is indeed worried.

As I've been saying, it's Man City all over again.

I guess we just have to be thankful that we did win!

Well by one point yes (if you're referring to the City game). The gap between us and Villa didn't change though, and they were in 18th at the start of that weekend from memory.

But when you get results like that against sides like City and Liverpool, you do sort of hope for a greater impact on your position in the table. But hey we've pulled right away from QPR and Reading, put Sunderland deep in trouble, and largely caught up with those in mid table. So I'm still very happy.

Two of the worst refereeing displays I have ever seen today.

I was trying to put we may not have got away from 18th, but we are now further away from 19th and 20th. But my phone messed up, i'm still very confident that we will stay up and only need 2 wins and a draw.

I find them quite embarrassing, they're a Rugby city, not football. They took 44 fans to Norwich away last season, and less than 80 to Arsenal, Their average away following is less than 300.

And from memory, we also pulled away from QPR and Reading after that City win too (think Reading lost to Stoke, and QPR lost to Swansea). The comparisons really are very similar.

As I say, whether or not 38ish points will be enough (which I am very confident we will get) I think will largely now depend on Sunderland. I would not be at all shocked if both ourselves and Wigan hit the 40 point mark, and Villa probably only need one surprise win to be in with a shout of getting there too.

But Sunderland could struggle to even make 36 points.

Annoying that we didn't pull away, but it shows how important our win was. It maintained our distance from the bottom three and kept us close to the teams above us. Wigan still have that game in hand as well. Our win on Saturday does show that we can get points off most teams, so we should remain confident.

Didn't realise the numbers were that low , so take your point , If I was a Wigan Football fan I would disagree though .

Of course Wigan fans will disagree, but like I said, a big away turnout for them is triple figures.....pretty embarrassing. Remember the first game at St Mary's this season? Everyone saying St Mary's was half empty because the away end of the Northampton had no one in it....due to Wigan only brining 350 fans.

Wigan have earned the right to be in the Premier League, same as everyone else, and should be used as an example to other `smaller`, less fashionable clubs that Premeir League football can be reached, and sustained. I suspect 40 points will be required to stay up too.

Having been to watch Wigan a bit, and having family there, they are no more a premier league club than mk dons, bmuff, Colchester etc! Rugby league is all they care about. So in a way, fair play to them!
Make no mistake though, it's still one of us, Wigan, villa, Sunderland, Norwich. After the Chelsea game we My well be back in the thixk of itt, which is why the win yesterday was so valuable
