Back to the subject the most gutted I've been I think was the FA cup semi final loss to Portsmouth a few years back. The cup was there for the taking and we blew it.

Think I had deliberately obliterated that one from my memory - damn you for reminding me!!! <wah>

Too many to remember.....but one season I shall always remember.....we killed Man U at home 5-1,then went to OT a few months later.....and got killed 5-1! Go figure....that's our Spurs.

But the one that will always stay with me was the European Cup Winners Cup in 1963-4.
We beat Man U fairly easily 2-0 then lost 4-1 at OT after they broke Dave Mackay's leg. This, together with the loss of John White by lightning, screwed us up for several seasons.
This may be the reason I have no liking for Manure to this day.....

I took my then 12 year old daughter to that match...we got stuck on a tube with a group of racist pompey scum (I don't want to call them fans as it seems unfair on proper pompey fans) and one of them threw loads of witty anti asian **** at us..."hope that ain't a bomb in your bag" etc etc. and "god ain't there a lot them of round here...not like at home" then got offended when I told him I was impressed with his bravery starting on a bloke with a kid. His mates who had been laughing got embaressed at this and started to tell him to stop which made him foam at the mouth.
My daughter was gutted when we lost and thought it was so unfair that they had a good day but every now and again we look at the state of pompey and laugh at the ****...I don't wish proper pompey fans the problems they have but I hope that bloke enjoys watching his club suffer a slow lingering death....
Oh and we were truly **** that day too

Never seen a double post so far apart! Though it was worth saying twice. Do you think those 2 events stopped us winning more league titles in the sixties?

The worst I can remember was being 4-0 down to newly promoted Sunderland inside 35 minutes or so, what was even worse was that Ed De Goey was Man of The Match up to that point and the scoreline flattered us.

There are many others, the 2-1 against Spurs where Cech prevented what should have been at least a 5-1 scoreline, Pavlyuchenko missed a few sitters and one on ones or we could have been staring at a record defeat for us in the PL.

5-1 loss at Anfield with Patrick Berger getting a hattrick. 4-2 home loss to Wimbledon and 2-0 loss at Valley Parade.

The 1-1 draw with Fulham on Boxing Day last season was up there though, possibly the worst atmosphere and football game I've ever watched at the Bridge.

Bringing back memories there. I remember Kevin Phillips and Niall Quinn ripping you a new one.

I also remember the City with 10 men come back. Great for the neutral, wasn't Stuart Pearce manager?

Spurs decipal.

Darned computer!!!!

Without a doubt. We lost Dave,Danny Blanchflower and John White almost together. We lost our engine room, brain and heart for several seasons.
But to be fair,we should have won the championships in 1959-60 and 1961-2 but messed up by not scoring goals! We were the best team by far but if you don't score you don't win!

We became such a mess we went to Arsenal and bought Laurie Brown.I mean....Laurie Brown!

Did we actually win a match with Ben Alnwick in goal?
Ah yes it must have been Sheffield United not Ipswich.

Ben Alnwick got a game for us?! My God - my memory's appalling.

And I would just like to question the assertion, in another post above, that anyone ever thought Hoddle was a great tactitian. Surely they don't, do they? For me the Hoddle days are solidly in one of the darker periods of the clubs' history. Steven Carr our best attacking player by a mile. Imagine THAT team...

That was the game, their combo play was incredible, almost telepathic

For me, not in order:

The Man City 10 man FA cup debacle
The "O'Hara" pundited FA cup vs Portsmouth
Getting a complete tonking from the Toon
Losing to a ****ty Blackburn team at wembley
The Andy Hinchcliffe/Amokachi FA cup semi vs Everton (1995)
Any number of capitulations vs Utd
Last night

Ben Alnwick got a game for us?! My God - my memory's appalling.

Played in our 2nd leg loss to Burnley and conceded from virtually every shot, then played in the final game of the 09/10 season.
That was also against Burnley, who had already been relegated. We went 2-0 up and he then let in 4.

Our tactics, organization and defending were absolute crap, certainly the worst I've seen. But the weird thing was our passing and movement were good, even very good at times. It was just that the moment Inter got the ball they started another odd man break.

I've seen a few games where there was absolutely no enjoyment to be had watching Spurs play (the first Norwich game this year comes to mind). Whereas Spurs were actually worth watching for decent stretches of this game.

I remember going to watch Barnsley v Spurs, in 1998, when they beat us 3-1 and knocked us out of the FA Cup. Apart from Ginola, we were complete 5hite that day. Thankfully, I was living and working in the North, at the time, so I didn't have far to travel home, but I did feel sorry for the rest of the lads.

Oh - remember the game. Not the goalie, though, apparently.

The FA Cup match with Stevenage last season was appalling for so many reasons. We lined up in a system we had never used before (or since) that involved no creative players in midfield and a couple of players out of position as the formation was put before the players in it, and we put on such a half-assed performance it was embarrassing. The thing is, just like last night, the damage was self-inflicted - Harry was obviously trying to show off so he'd impress The FA in their search for a new England manager, but he bodged it so horribly that day. Heck, if we sent out a team using our regular system we may have won the game first time, so would've had one less game on the fixture list and, given the injuries sustained in the replay, we wouldn't have been missing some key players for the run-in.

Also for consideration, the 6-1 Coca-Cola Cup loss to Bolton, and losing 3-2 to Leicester in the FA Cup from being 2-0 up.
