Well i am on a 17' Mac book pro in bed with a screen ratio of 16:10

Technically, it is widescreen, since standard TV is 4:3 (4/3 = 1.33), and the iPhone is 3:2 (3/2 = 1.5, which is >1.25, and actually closer to the ratio of widescreen computer displays, 16:10 = 1.6).

I can as i have a mac mini connected to my Panasonic Veira since 2008 works brilliantly and guess what ... the aspect ratio works bang on.

This tech stuff is boring as hell. if you are happy with your tech use it. I prefer Apple, they are expensive but at last they are now reconised worldwide as being the best consumer product ... it's factual and the rest of the world are still catching up ... or catching on.

Windows got what was coming to them for producing the world's worse operating system and forcing the world to use it! ... Some of didn't by into that crock and have been proven to be wise

I buy into both DT, you wouldn't do a 250 plus mac rollout to a trading floor would you?

It is a niche market that more and more regular bods are buying into,

I'm ms certified i am nterested in the IOS stuff but mainly from the jailbreaking / hacking side , can't teach that

Flash was disabled on 4.1, but only if you're using Kernel OS, which not all of us do! As a self-proclaimed geek, I could never use Apple products, I hate the lack of freedom. There are of course benefits to the all-controlling eye, but nothing that makes me want to use their products.

S3 was the clear winner in 2013, and I'm excited for what the S4 will deliver this year. Nexus looks quality this year. One thing we can all agree on; Apple finally having very strong competition is a good thing for all involved. Hopefully they will start innovating again, which will drive the whole market onwards.

As an ex Mac user (my Mac Mini died in January). Replaced it with a home built desktop based around a Gigabyte Z77 motherboard and a Hackintosh compatible processor but can't manage the install of Snow Leopard for some reason. Updated and input correct Bios settings but no luck. Any ideas, Cerny?

In frustration have lifted all my stuff off the old OS X HD using MacDrive 5 day trial and then moved it all over to Linux. Latest Ubuntu running with Gnome desktop is light years ahead of the mess that OS X has become. Don't like Windows but 7 (and 8 with the mess removed) aren't any worse than Mountain Lion.

    I found this... any help

Before you can boot into or install OS X on your Hackintosh, you've got to make some small adjustments to your system BIOS (press Delete at system startup to tweak your BIOS settings). Rather than taking you step by step through every change you need to make, I've simply snapped a picture of the relevant BIOS screens on the link below and added some notes. Just click through these images and make sure your BIOS settings match up.

    http://lifehacker.com/5351553/hackintosh-bios-gallery/gallery/1

Read this also and it all comes down to opinions ... me I just want a easy life nowadays and seriously you think the Gnome desktops are in any way an improvement ... I couldn't have that in front of me all day just on the way it renders out fonts ... How much have you saved doing this?. I have fiddled but there seems very little point as Apple components work together well and once you have used a thunderbolt display why go backwards? is the question I have to ask myself ?. I understand the fight against Apple but as a designer I appreciate first the fact that pixel perfect design is important and I haven't seen anything yet to come close. What we do with computers i know is more important than how they look but it all adds up in the long run and the influence of Apple is there to be seen throughout the world now. I like things to look good and I like thing to work with Apple you get both but I never forget these are only computers and my best friend is still my pencil and my brain

I've been running Ubuntu for a year now and I have been very impressed. A shame it will never reach "critical mass" so to speak and it will never become the norm to design programmes for Windows, Mac and Linux.

Im experienced with computers and even I think its for geeks, they will never get away from the "need to compile your own drivers" type stuff. I know thats probably not the case now but its still the image Linux has. Linux is for geeks, Apple is for hipsters, and windows is for everyone else.

Thanks, DT. I've tried those settings plus removing RAM down to 4GB and booting the usual install CD's from TonyMac and the other lot. No luck. To think I'd religiously backed up everything but like an idiot done it with cloning obviously in HFS+ journaled etc which without a Mac were useless. As this is a desktop I can have a much nicer system for £500 than buying a Mac Mini for which a replacement motherboard alone costs £550 plus VAT. Never again, every Mac I've ever had had hardware failures of one kind or another.

Edit: Apple TV2... pissed me off so bad I ripped it out and threw it out the window down the street. Total locked down rubbish.

Don't like Unity or the Gnome 3 DE myself but in Gnome Classic mode it's very, very good.

They have built in obsolescence, parts are glued in or made difficult to replace so people have to but a new one. Yet the sheep still buy them.

Ive had my computer for 15 years, Ive upgraded it to a 4 core and the only faults Ive had is a dead drive (8 years), an old CRT monitor (6 years) and a PSU (about 5 years) which cost me £80, £120 and £30 respectively.

I once offered Apple an App that I'd been developing that automatically turned every user into an overbearing prig. They turned me down on the basis that it was replicating core functionality.

Good Skills I have spent £33,000 on bloody fully licensed software that is then dip feed to the markets ... now there is a thing for a good rant. The hardware will always be just a preference the software is the pig ... and now they want me to turn into everything into a cloud and rent the software. If you need to keep up with the latest software then the future looks expensive. 3 years max the internet in the UK will be tightly under control. The days of free cracked software, films and music are coming to a end. I can't complain as I used to get free flights with Ryanair for three years (tax only) they weren't clever enough then to think mac would catch on as you used to be able to book your flight in safari press the back button and the fare price would re set to £0.00 so you would only pay the tax!. Later on I would do this on their French site until they had a complete re build ... ever wonder why its now like wadding through treacle. I wish people won't have left Macs alone ... bloody iPhone has changed the world

Really the only way to go. How a nothing special motherboard can cost £550 plus VAT sums them up. My son a few years ago was quoted over £600 by Apple to replace a 12" iBook G4 screen, madness.

Back in the days of OS 8 and OS 9 they were ok despite the constant crashes but they've gone well wrong over the last five years. Even the much lauded iPhone is now bettered by Android and the new Blackberry Z10 and who the hell pays four times the price for an Apple monitor with the same exact LG panel as a Dell in it?

Sorry, Apple and its late boss really annoy me.
