What does it add? As much as we scoff at Liverpool fans reminding us of their history, it is the history and tradition of the major competitions here and in Europe which give them their appeal. They may have changed the format, but the kudos from winning the CL is to join the list of great teams who have won it before or to move higher up that list of champions. The world club championship is fairly meaningless and so would this venture be, except for the extra dosh teams might earn if they were daft enough to take part (in the few years it would last before becoming defunct)

surely such a competition would provide unfair advantage to those in it. The CL already gives clubs a monetary advantage but at least you have to earn your place in that. This is just gifting £175m to a choice of clubs. Surely they won't allow this?

You'd think, but I doubt it will be long before we see City playing in a competition in Dubai against a bunch of lads from a local car wash, with a prize of £100m for the winning team, conveniently set up by their owners. Saying that, with that clown Bobby Mankini in charge they'd probably still finish 2nd.

We've already seen what the CL has done to our own traditional cup competitions; Both being changed, not necessarily for the better, to accommodate elite teams that should be able to cope with the extra fixtures. Money is not the only thing that should be considered here, besides, the men with sand in their shoes would probably have to buy FIFA to get this through.

i don't want 12month football, i quite enjoy a little break.
Even worse will be the clubs pimping themselves out to anyone and everyone trying to make a buck by playing in these bollocks leagues

I could probably afford to buy fifa. They're well up for a bung

I thought FIFA were already bought and paid for <whistle> seriously, I'm sure that if they thought they could, The Qataris would do it.

Unfortunately, like it or not, the major clubs are all whores - granted, top class expensive ones, but whores nonetheless. If the Qataris wave a large enough cheque, they'll drop their knickers!..

It's a hoax, apparently. Wouldn't surprise me if something similar did happen eventually, though.

The journalist's denying it, but it's pretty big coincidence if he hasn't been totally mugged off.
