"Liverpool don't belong in seventh, eighth or ninth in the table. We want to push for the European places year after year." (Stevie Gerrard, interview for BBC Sport) This is the reason why most neutrals despise 'Pool and its fans. 'Pool DO belong in 7th, because the 6 teams above you are better than you. It's not rocket science, pal. You might want to "push" for European places every season, but with the stable of donkeys that you have in your squad it's going to be somewhat difficult, don't you think? This quote isn't quite as bad as that twat Robbie Fowler's "we deserve to be in the top 4 every year" comment, but it's still vile. And they are in 7th only because Everton haven't played yet. When Everton win their next game, 'Pool will be back down to 8th, where they belong.
Liverpool are sixth! If you dont reach for the stars you will never get there. You need to replace the words 'most neutrals' with I. Much as you would like to be Woolfie Smith, you are not the voice of the masses...lol. He is not saying Liverpool 'deserve' to be at the top, (that would be arrogance.) He is saying Liverpool belong at the top, which is the sort of optimism expected by the fans and is what has kept us going through hard times. Its just his opninion, you really shouldnt let it upset you. Everyone has opinions, like yours that Liverpool would be fighing relegation towards then end of this season.
Only 6th because other teams didn't play due to Cup games. Reminds me of those idiots who think they've got the fastest car when you're stuck in a traffic jam.
Good to see Skylarker proving to be a child - throwing a tantrum because someone dared attack his precious little rep...
You're speaking for the neutrals now are you? The poster who made an anti-Liverpool thread, that has turned out to be the consistently most active thread on this board, and you're speaking for the neutrals. Hilarious.
So Arsenal (5th - 47 points) are definitely going to win their game in hand against Everton (7th - 45 points)? That's a forgone conclusion? Points on the board are all that matters, Liverpool have as many as Arsenal, Spurs have more than Chelsea. That's all there really is to it I'm afraid.
It had nothing to do with you lot. It was all our doing. If you wanna be picky it was at the hands of Hicks & Gillette, Rafa and selling Xabi Alonso without replacing him. We were awful that year by our usual high standards and this was straight off the previous season were we actually challenged for the title past February. We shot ourselves in the foot. We didn't need anyone else to **** it up for us.
I think its funny when the idea of us never winning anything since the 80s is brought up and we had 2-30 years of nothing. heres a list of trophies we have won after our period of dominance in 70/80s: 1 European Cup (and get to a final again within 2 years n 2007) 1 UEFA Cup 2 European Super Cups 3 FA Cups 4 League Cups 11 Trophies in the cabinet in our so called "wilderness years" is not bad going I sure you'd agree. We don't need to go backs to the 80s for our glory as the 00s were a bloody good decade for us all in all and without spending anywhere near huge money whilst Parry and Moores still ran the club. I don't understand why people bring up this history thing. It just ends up making them look silly as, at the end of the day, the only reason Football teams exist is to win trophies and bring success to your club and success. When Abramovic and Mansour came in they weren't buying those clubs just to play, or to just get in the top 4. they anted to win leagues, FA Cups and Champions Leagues. Now when clubs are successful it appears to be fans of not as successful clubs who determine when you can take pride in your clubs accomplishments. They only make the history argument is because their club can't compete trophy cabinet wise. If when Fergie goes or the Glaziers debt ends up crippling them and they don't win another league or CL for 20 years, do you think they wouldn't be talking about their achievements and their glory days? You think they won't be proud of that? They will make sure they don't mention any glory unless it occurred last year? Of course they will. They'd be worse than us as their used to winning more recent than us, were sort of used to it now, not winning the league isn't a surprise or big deal any more. I am incredibly proud of my club, its past, its present and its future. I am immensely proud that we had 20 years of being the best and won everything on show. I always will be and I'll NEVER apologise for bringing up our glorious past because its part of being a Liverpool supporter, its in the DNA, and no matter how much lesser clubs moan about it, I'll never stop revelling in it. With everything weve accomplished in our clubs existence I think we have, at least, earned that right. I just find it quite amusing when smaller, less successful, clubs peddle this "history" myth (despite all the stuf weve won a lot more recently) as they have no way of competing with what our club has done and will likely never witness that themselves with their club. And a final reminder football wasn't invented in 1992 by Murdoch and his lackeys and Spurs fans their was a Premier League in existence pre-2010 as much as you like to block that out and pretend it never happened.
Basically, I should of just said THIS. Fantastic post couldn't agree more. You'll never admit but you know as well as I that your nervous of us geting our **** together and be back amongst the Top 4 in the next couple of years. I can tell by the way you all collectively try to convince and re-assure yourselves that Liverpool are finished and that Spurs are "miles ahead". We will takeover you again eventually. Its just a matter of time, so enjoy it and get all the piss taking in before its too late.
