Saints U21s: Gazzaniga; Butterfield, Stephens, Forren, Young; Robinson, Chambers, Moore; De Ridder, Sinclair, Rowe.

Saints Bench: Johns (GK), Turnbull, Isgrove, McQueen, Curtis.

I would have thought, without wishing to be harsh, that having Butterfield and De Ridder in the team is probably more of a hinderance to the U21s. Also, why is Butterfield even involved?

Butts deserves a few minutes on the pitch, he has stayed loyal and being a footballer, should be playing football.

Yeah I appreciate that, but I doubt giving him one U21 game is particularly rewarding/great for him. I know he's a good character though, and his experience may be able to help the younger U21 players in some way.

Richardson is all right but he's nowhere near as good as some people on here think he is.

But still, surely it's worth having him match fit ahead of Butterfield. Although I don't suppose it matters as neither are getting a look in as back up for Clyne. The thing is though, assuming Clyne continues to be our first choice RB next season (Which you would expect to be the case), is there any point in bringing another in as back up or do we keep Richardson on even though we are playing CB's ahead of him in his position?

I don't know, you're probably right that it's not worth bringing in a backup for Clyne, but we have Yoshida and Cork who can fill-in there, and Stephens and Chambers in the reserves. We're hardly short of options. I don't know what the order is, maybe Richardson is considered a better right-back than most of those other options, but he is obviously not deemed worthy of a place on the bench when Yoshida and Cork will be in the 18 anyway, and if it's a choice between him and an attacking option, or a youngster, I think I can understand that decision.

Went to the game last night. Was about 4 saints fans there. Overall i wasnt really impressed with my first ever U21/Reserves game or what ever you want to call it. We creatied very few chances and couldnt string more than a couple passes together.
Forren does not look like he is good enough to play premier league. Made some good tackles and headers and lead the line well but got ripped by the pace of arsenals strikers on many occasions.
Deridder i think i has found his level. Was the best player on the pitch and ran Arsenal's defence ragged. But didnt really look like he was enjoying playing.
Gazzaniga is still shakey as always and has a long way to come before first team football
Few people around me were impressed with isgrove when he came on. Looked tidy and made some good passes
dale stephens i think his name is? Played pretty awful and headed the clearence back to the striker for them to score the second
Omar rowe looked pretty good along with that sinclair guy but they had little to work off.

Jack Stephens isn't it? Does that mean we still don't have a pacy centre back <laugh> . Wonder who will be in the first team picture next year, top candidates must be Targett, Sinclair and Chambers I reckon. Still haven't watched the yoof team for ages though.
