Not exactly the prestige striker we wanted, but who knows.. Stoke loan star John Carew is wanted by Sunderland. The Norway striker, 31, who joined the Potters on-loan from Aston Villa in January, is a free agent this summer. He won't be returning to Villa and has not ruled out staying at Stoke, but Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has Carew on his radar as he sets about rebuilding his attack this summer. The well-travelled Carew will be joining the ninth club of his career this summer, having already had spells with Valerenga, Rosenborg, Valencia, Roma, Besiktas and Lyon.
He is certainly not the top striker I want to see at the club. Eight previous clubs, and to be totally honest he has never torn defences to bits and is not a consistant scorer of goals which is what we have lacked since Judas headed to Villa. I would rather see the likes of Defoe playing for us, as much as I hate the club doing business with the cockney barra-boy. Judging by the way he has been sparingly used this season ( injuries permitting) I think he could be on his way out of the Lane. Wether we could afford his wages even if he was prepared to leave London is another matter, but we can dream, at least I can.
The guy is a Donkey, same as TAF workshy. I've seen him play for the norewegian national team he is pretty useless, with the occasional flash of bordering on fair. Hope to hell we don't get him. He was pretty poor at Villa, and how many games has he had for the potters? not many.
And that is the problem, how can we say we are moving forward then buy a player neither Villa or Stoke want?
HERE HERE Syd lad, Bruce needs to aim higher and deliver what we expect or we'll be in trouble next season.
As a squad player perhaps, out and out striker, no. Is he injury prone.......................just what we need. However, it is paper talk lets not use it as another cross to crucify Steve Bruce on - is it me or has sense of reason left this board recently.........
If he is squad for "Plan B" then great addition. Hope it will be 20 minutes here and there and start in league cup etc though
When we were beaten by Stoke at the Britania he got man of the match for prodding the ball in from 1 yard out and elbowing it in from 2 yards out, no thanks. I hope this is just speculation
Should this thread not be in the joke of the day section Carew no thanks Seaton Carew is the only Carew i want in the North East
