Cheltenham Each-Way Good Things

I was watching the Betfair preview evening on YouTube last night and there was a recurring theme throughout the excellent show - putting together combination bets and accumulators on the e/w good things throughout the week. This doesn't mean e/w fancies in the big handicaps (which are an absolute lottery) but horses which we think are absolutely nailed on to place at odds which may not be highly appealing individually but could multiply up to a nice sum in a Lucky 15/31/63. For example:

Overturn (Arkle) best price 11/4
Zarkandar (Champion Hurdle) best price 9/2
Unioniste (RSA) best price 6/1
Sizing Europe (Champion Chase) best price 6/1
Bob's Worth (Gold Cup) best price 3/1

A 1 pound e/w Lucky 31 on those 5 would cost 62 quid and if all 5 placed (assuming 1/5 odds, you might get better) you'd be looking at a return of 195.88. If all 5 win you'd be looking at 10 grand - which is unlikely, admittedly, given we have Sizing Europe up against Sprinter Sacre.

If OVerturn and Sizing Europe place and the other 3 win you are still looking at around 450 quid back.

Any thoughts on this?
 
Ahh, the good ole accys/multiples for the festival, and the pit falls...!!! I did go a bit overboard last year on these sort of bets and didnt come out with much at all. But then again i did put the likes of Hurricane Fly in everything, plus Long Run and Sizing Europe, with them all to win...!!!<doh><grr>

I have looked at these sort of bets and i do like em as its only a bit of fun in the end. As you say Oddy if they all win then its party time, Cheltenham style, but its not going to really is it. Miss out on 1 then its a very nice return, and it will be something that i will do again...

There are a few out there that we can be strong on, and all around the 3/1 - 6/1 market, so we could build up a nice little earner if we get a bit of luck. I know that its a bit of a mugs game but if your only putting a £1 e/w 4 or 5 pick bet then i do think its worth a go...


If i had to name a few to make the list then i would also add these to yours...

Jezki (Supreme) 5/1... pays first 3
Pont Alexander (Albert) 3/1... pays first 3
Outlaw Pete (X-Country) 6/1... pays first 4
Reve Ds Sivola (World Hurdle) 9/2... pays first 3

I think we could get a 4 or 5 horse multiple out of these to very close...<ok>
 
I've been trying year after year to land a touch with small stakes multiples at The Festival, but this year I've given up. I've had some deep joy with lucky 15s in the past, despite wiser heads than mine pointing out that bookies love these bets. But at Cheltenham? Nothing, not a sniff, at best 3 legs of a heinz. The racing is too damn competitive imo, so from now on I'm just sticking to win singles in the championship races, and some e/w plays in the handicaps.

Good luck with the strategic approach though. Just think of that stable lad who landed a monstrous acca last year.
 
And Sam Winner perhaps if one delves into the handicaps LOL
 
Dreadful bet in my book, I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see one of those bomb and even a couple win. I find it tough enough to find one winning bet, let alone a bet that leads onto others!!

I would say Cue Card is an EW good thing. However I see no point betting in the race now I have a smallish bet on SS at evens.

I am with you there Nass..... its very very very very unlikely to come in so why bother? I would rather pick up nice returns on singular bets and be happy with that..... Still I guess if you do something like a £5 e/w treble then its only a tenner down the drain or maybe a 50p e/w Patent costing £7. Any of these could give you a handsome return but so very unlikely to come in.

As an each way bet i fancy Swing Bowler in the County Hurdle at a best priced 14-1.
 
The e/w Lucky 31 is a bet I do fairly often and have had some success with - 2 winners will usually return your stake, as will 3 placed horses. I've had all 5 placed and that returned a couple of hunderd euros on a 0.50 units stake. I think the best return I had was for 3 decent priced winners which returned approx 450 for a unit stake of 1.

I fully agree that the e/w combination bets on 4 or 5 33/1 shots in the handicaps are a waste of time, but choosing horses which look nailed on for a place due to the race conditions could be a good way to profit without much outlay, and of course you have a financial interest in several races for a small outlay.
 
Accept it doesn't happen often but I had a ten treble up on the Weds last year with the NH chase winner, Finians and Simonsig. Paid nearly a grand! Could do with a few of those.
 
I like Melodic Rendezvous in the Supreme. Though i only bet once a year(Only at the festival) i have had the last 3 winners of the Supreme.But sadly, fk all else at the rest of the meeting.

Just noticed you said Melodic Rendezvous <doh> small attention span.

Long Run is my e/w good thing, has proven he has what it takes to win a GC, cheekpieces applied and looks set for a big run following a good prep.
 
FP,you do realise that we are doomed to fail now ive opened my big trap.But I actually really like the favourite too.But i dont like the thought that this race is a bit of an after-thought for MTOY.
 
Right, having said I'd given up on small stakes multiples, I'm off to find a Paddy Power shop to put on a £5 Lucky 15 as follows;

Cue Card - Ryanair Chase
Reve De Sivola - World Hurdle
Far West - Triumph Hurdle
Silviniaco Conti - Gold Cup

None of yer each way bollocks.
 
I always have a little e/w Lucky 15 each day at Cheltenham. I'm not a gambler and the little bets just give an added interest.

Tomorrow I've plumped for

Cheltenian
Countrywide Flame
Kentford Grey Lady
Carlito Brigante

I'm well aware that the likelyhood of the bet coming off is very small, but I'm happy to make the outlay and have an inexpensive bit of fun. I usually manage to find at least one big priced winner at the Festival!
