Saturday's meeting marks just the 18th meeting between the sides. Everton have had the better of the visiting side in the past as shown in the table below:

The first meeting between the sides came in the FA Cup fourth round which is the only time the two clubs have met in a cup fixture ahead of the weekend's quarter final tie. Bob Latchford, Brian Kidd and Joe McBride were the scorers in 1980 as Everton ran out 3-0 winners at Goodison Park.
Everton were knocked out in the semi finals that year with an Extra time goal from Frank Lampard Sr to send the eventual winners of the cup West Ham through to the final.

Wigan's only Goodison Park victory came in the first ever league meeting between Everton and Wigan in September 2005 when Damien Francis scored the solitary goal of the game and his only goal of the campaign.

The largest margin of victory between Everton and Wigan came in April 2009 at Goodison Park as Everton thrashed Wigan 4-0 in the premier league. On loan Brazilian striker Jo scored two of the goals with Marouane Fellaini and Leon Osman netting the rest.

Wigan's last win against Everton came November 2008 in a 1-0 win at the then JJB stadium. The win in that game sealed by a Henri Camara goal earning a deserved 3 points for the home side. This is also Wigan's only home win against Everton.

Everton's last win came in the most recent game of this fixture in September 2012, Leon Osman's deflected goal along with a Phil Jagielka header was enough for the three points despite Arouna Kone scoring late on in a 2-1 Everton win.

Other than that a great opportunity to progress but I feel Wigan will be sorting themselves out ahead of this game they defended terrible against Liverpool which was the main reason for that drubbing and not the table topping brilliance of Liverpool..

Play like we did In flashes against Reading and we will be ok If not It'l be a long afternoon
 
If it wasn't for Reina then they could have scored 3 or 4 against Liverpool themselves, Hopefully we deal with them and Mirallas/Pienaar rip them apart.

Yeh Reina played a blinder fairplay...Lets hope Howard's ok he ain't great but he ain't Mucha either lol<ok>
 
What was wrong with Mucha? One mistake rolling the ball out to Gibson and can't be blamed for the reading goal. I would be confident with him playing against Wigan.
 
Thought Mucha did alright, Howard only just missed out though so he will probably be fit to start.
 
You'll not find a Latics supporter who holds out any hope for us in this game.

You'll definitely see a second string from us. Probably Robles in goal, and he looked spooked at Macclesfield so God knows what he'll make of Goodison; Stam and Golobart in defence - Stam has been worse than ordinary. Golobart is young and has played well but is untested at this level. He'll probably play Fyvie and Gomez. Jesus. Nuff said. Gomez has cost us points against a handful of bottom half clubs. Bobby alone knows why he perseveres with the dark eyed well coiffed Spaniard.. Up front Kone. It's all set to be a terrible embarassment to be honest. Hell, the way our first eleven played last weekend I don't think it matters much who he puts out. Perhaps the best we can hope for is that our first eleven have their eyes shielded from this so that the trauma doesn't affect the run in.

Still, a wee trip along the M58 and it'll be nice to come to Goodison. Hopefully not for the last time!
 
Will he definitely field a much weakened team then mate?

Seems an odd choice, given that you've got 8 days to recover before your next game & it's a QF with a Wembley appearance at stake.

Also, we're being heavily linked with Martinez if / when Moyes goes, what's your thoughts on him?
 
Yeah, he'll field one of his cup teams - probably four or five first team regulars, plus the likes of Alcaraz coming back off injury - though might be too soon for him - plus a handful of fringe players. Expect to see Gomez, McManaman, Stam, Espinoza. Golobart if Alcaraz isn't up to speed, Robles for al Habsi. I really don't know what we're going to do down the right hand side of defence, Boycey was torn apart by Coutinho and Suarez last week in a back four, I expect Pienaar and Osman to do the same this week - Boyce is much loved but is getting leggy now. I dunno, maybe Bobby will surprise us and play a back four with Scharner as a right back with Stam in front ot try and shore it up? in whcih case - 4-4-2 never works for us, so we're ****ed.

Going forward if we play only one striker then we'll likely have no goals in us at all. If we play two and Gomez we might have some opportunities. Note this - if we're playing one recognised striker and you notice us working the ball wide all the time, we won't score.

trying to be optimistic, something like this -

Kone di Santo

is about the best we can expect. That has five first team regulars and ight give us enough going forward so that we could nick a goal. I expect him though to play an extra midfielder and one less striker - so Maloney for di Santo. Whenever he has tried to play Gomez and Maloney together we've been ****ed.

As for Bobby as Everton manager - love the bones of the man, he's a very strong character. He'd have to be to follow Moyes. It's that old question isn't it - will he achieve more with a bit more money and better quality players? We still have the last quarter of last season to look at and say - we were the best team in England for ten games. If he could get your lot playing like that for an extended period he'd be a legend.

If you get him though, look forward to seeing a lot more of his mate Gomez than you might want.

All i can say is that with 100% of the vote going for a Everton win the result for Saturdays game speak for itself but having said that i think Bobby M will put out a decent side i don`t think Gomez will start but Franco will to maybe give us a early chance.
 
At the end of day it's xi v xi . Two premier league teams, if Wigan are up for it and for some reason we aren't then they're capable of beating us.
 
I work with Wigan supporters and many of my mates follow the team, and I have never seen such a lack of optimism before a game!

Last weekend, before Liverpool we were all certain we would get something out of the game so we're capable of being as hopeful as any supporters. But not this time round.
 
Well here's some good news for you, It looks like Howard is going to be out until the end of the month apparently.

And here's some absolutely fantastic news for you, rumours are that Neville is set to start.
