Voted by the Zenit fans, because they wanted him to racially abuse all of the black players out of their team!
How anyone can even think that bucktooth can even be considered for POTY after tonight must be....a seriously deluded miserable scouser...
He played a blinder tonight ....missed at least 6 clear cut chances and the scousers lost 2-0. Clearly one of the best 3 players in the premiership and one of the top 10 in the world...according to the miserable scousers fans...
Rodgers says that Suarez should be POTY. Just indicative of why he is a poor manager and has a poor judgement of players. The cheat may well be their best player but best in the premiership? Not by a long way. He is not even top 5.
The top contenders will be RVP, Bale, Michu and Suarez. If there is to be a fifth nominee I hope it is Lambert, he's had a great season.... A lot will depend on how those players perform in the coming months, but at the moment RVP and Bale are ahead of the others imo. There won't be any defensive players with a chance as the defences have been dire over the whole of the season.
Perhaps it's impossible to put all bias aside but I do try to and I just don't think Suarez is a great player. His finishing isn't very good and he runs up blind alleys far too often to be considered a top class player. If we could sign one of Suarez or Bale in the summer I would 100% go for Bale.
Agree with you on those four, possibly with Mata and Cazorla in there too - both have been playing as well as Suarez and making great contributions imo. There's usually six nominations, so I'd expect those six, possibly with Walcott or Wilshere getting in due to the English factor. RVP and Bale will be favourites as they have actually lifted their team and help them achieve a higher level. I said on the Liverpool board that they would probably be in still be around 8th or 9th in the league and out of all competitions without Suarez, and they generally agreed, so he's done precisely **** all to help their season. Ditto Mata and Cazorla - for all their good play, skill and contributions I don't think their teams would be much worse off without them. Rodgers even recognises Suarez' failure to help the team with his constant "I think Suarez is the best player in the league, now let's hope he can actually win us a few games before the end of the season".
Yeah, totally agree. For all his spurts of goals and form he's achieved bugger all all season, nothing at all. I dont really think Carzola has either to be honest, he's been inconsistent, which is forgivable in his first season over here, but to be player of the year I think it should go to a season of sustained excellence and I can only really say the others mentioned qualify for that, those being RVP, Bale and Michu. Carrick falls into that category but isn't a fancy enough name to get a look in. Defender wise, and they always get overlooked, I'd say Baines must be thrown n the mix. And Merteseker.
I don't think Cazorla will be close to winning it, but there has to be six nominees and he's been as good as anyone outside the obvious three imo. Had a few poor games, but that's to be expected in his first season, and he's won plenty of games for Arsenal this season. When you consider how their new players usually start out, that's even more impressive. Carrick would be a good shout if he played for one of the lower clubs, a la Parker for West Ham in 2011. Or if he was Spanish. But at Utd he'll always be overlooked as an excellent cog in a generally excellent machine. Baines is another good shout, but like you say defenders are often ignored unless they hit some arbitrary record. I think VDS, Vidic and Rio were nominated in 2009 for the consecutive clean sheet record, and Terry won in in 2005 for the PL clean sheet record, and by virtue of there being no really great attacking players that year, but other than that good defending seems to be overlooked in favour of fancy dribbling. But Mertesacker? Seriously? He's played a few good games for Arsenal, but remains a liability in far too many. And for a Big ****ing German he can't head the ball to save his life.
There is no comparison. Suarez is a classic example of the big fish in a small pond syndrome. Because the rest of the team is so mediocre, he stands out in many matches. That does not mean that he is an outstanding player in his own right. The same with Parker last time. In a mediocre team he stood out. When he is in a good team with good players around him, he does not stick out. Put Suarez in a good team, he'll be anonymous... I am surprised that tikitaka Rodgers does not recognise that.
