Fonte will be back soon and Jos will probably be back on the bench.
QPR is a must win on saturday so MP might make a change there

It was when Hooiveld let the ball run across his body either in the box or just outside that scared me the most. I think we have to introduce Forren relatively soon, he was the first name on the teamsheet at Molde, im sure he won't be too impressed with not even making the 18 here! Especially as sub left back, Fox is crap and has been at fault for too many goals for it to be funny. If Shaw is knackered in games, then surely Forren, who has experience at LB is better than a dreadful Fox!

Forren may have started for Molde, but we are Southampton and in the PL. He should regard it as a challenge and step up...which to be fair he probably is.

Oh that was brilliant. Love to see the Cb's drop a shoulder on their own penalty spot to send the striker the other way ........... not

Yeah, okay, fair enough. But did you see Fox on Sunday?! If i was a decent left back and saw that from outside the squad, its fair to say i would question my position within the squad. Im sure he will come good and play many games for us. But if he is fully fit, he must be wondering what he has to do. Fox has had many chances, and blown a lot of them, Forren has had no opportunity...

I'm hoping that was the last we will ever see of Danny Fox. As for Hoiveld, I was totally unimpressed. Can I assume that this Forren chap can do a job at left back too?

If Fonte gets a starting place then that means Maya will have to move to left side of of our centre back pairing and I personably believe he has looked far more settled in the role on the right side. Only Pochettino will know if Forren is ready to start yet but as he is a left sided centre back, it could be a better balanced centre back pairing for me.

I'd be content with any two of the four playing as long as Fonte and Hooiveld don't play together!

I would expect Jose Fonte to walk back into the side as soon as he's fit, in fact I'll be very surprised if that doesn't happen, as we're a much better defensive unit with him than without and he seems to provide leadership. He also reads the game very well, but to be fair so does Hooiveld. Yoshida continues to improve after a shaky start when he was played out of position at LB for a while. Where all that leaves Forren, I wouldn't know.

I think that we only have to look at Samba, another northern European signing purchased outside of the country's season and look how rusty he seems, hope that he does not stop us single-handedly this weekend now!

That's a good point and MP hasn't had too many defensive wrries before the Newcastle match. Would expect him to be ready now though!

In a strengthened squad, I think they call it competition for places, don't they..?

Show's how desperate 'You R's' are! By the time he's fully fit, they'll be offloading him to reduce their Championship wage bill! I'm happy to wait until he's up to pace.

Does he actually exist? No centre-backs on the bench today.

For those #Saintsfc fans asking, we've been told Vegard Forren is injured. No further details at this stage.

Bizarre, considering Pochettino has been quoted this evening as saying he is fit and has been left out for tactical reasons. Unless there's some creative translation going on.

Presumably Hoover is injured or he would certainly have been on the bench?

    "Yoshida is looking good"...

I cannot believe you have posted that. He is an accident waiting to happen at any given moment in time. There is only one worse defender at Saints and that is Fox. Put them in the same side and we struugle to close out games.

The media team propaganda shows him in training before the QPR match, and MP says he chose not to select him...

For me at the moment it's 1. Fonte 2. Yoshida 3. Hooiveld, for £4m Forren should be forcing his way to the top of that list.

He (Yoshida) doesn't seem to be able to put two or three good games together. Even within games, his form seems to fluctuate.

I know that he's won a lot of people over, but for me the jury is very much still out. He doesn't worry me any more like he used to, but I still find it hard to be comfortable with him in our defence.

But then again today, Fonte aside, I wasn't happy with any of our defenders today (and even Fonte should have given away a penalty).
