We need a squad that can compete and for me that involves having lots of players with many different talents to give us options.

Wes brings a lot to the table as well as being very skilful and tricky when he has possession, he has vision which a lot of our midfielders lack, you can also add to that a superb footballing brain which makes us a lot less predictable at times.
 
I think both players wanted to leave as well, Thai, but I like your suggestion of the 4-3-1-2 and think it is worth a try. Sort of a deeper lying diamond formation in defence but moving forward to attack.

Are you seriously suggesting RVP moved from Arsenal to ManUre because Wenger considered him past his "sell by date", rather than the fact he could double his money and have a much better chance to win trophies? Seriously????

Bang on mate <ok>

In this division you need to be able to play all sorts of different styles and formations as the situation dictates at the time. We need an option like Wes available to come on and change the game if need be, a 20 minute cameo from him coming on to unlock a defence is going to be vital at times and how gutted would we be if we were 1-0 down after 75 minutes and didn't have someone like his to come on and change the game?

People get far too hung up on the way we line-up for the match at the kick-off whistle without realising the vast majority of games are won/lost in the last 20 minutes when the team formation/personnel is likely to be quite different from that which started the game. People used to go on and on about how successful the diamond was under Lambert, without acknowledging that we won a hell of a lot of games in the last ten minutes after the diamond has been cast aside in favour of a gung-ho, sometimes 4/5 up front set up bombarding the opposition's goal.

Why oh why are you being selective with what I am saying?

We can argue about letting our best players going all day but other teams have made stranger choices, Cantona to Man Utd, RVP to Man Utd to name just two. On the surface these are pretty incredible decisions made by Leeds and Arsenal but for some reason they had met their sell by date for those clubs,

That is not to say they were no good as players, just that those teams could afford to let those players go. All players have a sell by date under the right circumstances but yes if you are going to select "highlights" from what I am saying then I am sure you will have a field day with taking the piss.

Sorry, but you are digging an even bigger hole here mate. Do you honestly think Arsenal had any say whatseover about whether RVP stayed or not? He was out of contract and jumped ship for the dollar and better opportunities, just likely Ashley Cole, Nasri, Fabregas, Clichy etc etc did before him - I thought that was blindingly obvious! So you think Arsenal - who are apparently going through the biggest crisis/worst season in a decade - "could afford" to let him go? Is that why they're doing so **** this year and why ManUre are currently strolling to the title at a canter thanks to RVP's goals? It is universally accepted that RVP is the big difference in the title race season this year, and the reason an otherwise ordinary United squad are looking to break their record points tally.

And you used Cantona at Leeds as another example. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but didn't they win the title with him and then the year after they sold him they almost got relegated? I just really, really don't get your point with either example I'm afraid.

I know this has nothing to do with Wes, and I'm in no way suggesting he is as valuable as an RVP was to Arsenal, or Cantona to Leeds, I'm just highlighting the massive fundamental flaws all through your argument <ok>

Where did I say that? I didn't. What I have written and what you are reading in to are two different things.

If Wes had not met his sell by date at Blackpool, we would not be having this discussion.

Doesn't matter if the player is in contract or not - if the current club want a player enough and can afford it, they will do all they can to keep him. Maybe Arsenal couldn't afford to RVP so his sell by date arrived when the right offer came in for him - not because he was past his sell by date, ,getting the idea yet?.

I just really, really don't get your point with either example I'm afraid. - I will say it again and hopefully you will read what I write - ALL players have a sell by date, for one reason or another. Does that make sense to anyone other than me?

No, you're still talking a load of rubbish. Try bringing the debate down to semantics all you like, but you're still talking rubbish <ok>

Firstly you said that Arsenal made a choice to sell RVP to ManUre, which is clearly, fundamentally and 100% wrong to anyone with half a brain.

That's more than enough to boot your argument firmly into touch so there's not actually any need for a "secondly" <ok>

I was not bringing it down a level - you mis-quoted me twice and started taking the piss off the back of it.

ALL players have a sell by date - what you mean is every palyer has a selling price or a reason to be sold. RVP didnt want to sign new arsenal contact so they sold him to Man U - who actually didnt bid the most that was man city. (player power)

Take Wes - at the moment he is in the team so he is valuable to us. If he was a squad player he would still be valuable. but if he was like Chris Martin then selling him would be best for both us and player. But can you ever see Wes not getting in the team at all thoughtout an entire season ? because i cant.

Exactly - didn't think it needed to be broken down quite so far as I was under the impression our lot were quite intelligent. The circumstances in which it happens are mostly irrelevant. If a player wants to leave a club or the club want to sell a player for whatever reason, the sell by date has been met. Not necessarily because they are past their sell by date.

The honest answer is, I do not know what the future holds for Wes. Ask munky, he'll give the right answer <ok>
 
A 4-3-1-2 with Johnson on the left of the 3, tettey middle and snodgrass right. A lot of pressure from the full backs to create width though....
 
Norwich wouldnt have offered him a new contract if they didnt think they could fit Wes in somewhere. I believe he still had a season left on his old contact.


I thought Howson played really well Saturday so would swap him and Tettey about.
 
Sorry if this has been said but I thought Howson was absolutely useless/none existant on saturday so I would have no problem playing a diamond with hoolahan behind kei and holt/becchio and pilks/benno on the left. Id rather do this than play two defensive mids and one of them be a waste of space!

ps just read that RVP will not face Norwich which is good news!
