Bale had plenty of good moments against Lyon. It wasn't his best game for us by any means though.

I gave you an example of how assists can be misleading. If you want to make all your footballing opinions on numbers that's fine but I prefer to look at how they play on the pitch. I find it baffling that you can put store in Mata's goal and assist stats as proof that Mata is better than Bale, yet when Bale scores 2 against Lyon suddenly you're astute enough to judge a player's performance and not just the impressive return of 2 goals from 2 freekicks.

    That's what I meant.

apologies that was slightly tongue in cheek, I know assists can be misleading at times but you can't have 22 misleading assists. I fail to see how scoring two freekicks is the mark of a world class player, there are plenty of **** players out there with cracking free kicks.

I've never said that all 22 were misleading, I was just saying that assists aren't such an important indicator of a player's performance. Stats in general aren't hugely important, you can "prove" almost anything you want with them. As I said, the 50 chances Bale has created in the Premier League suggests it's not Bale's fault that he's not got many assists every bit as much as Mata's assists prove he's a better player. The truth is neither mean all that much.

I don't think Bale's freekicks make him World Class either, mostly because he isn't World Class and partly because it's no more than a string to his bow.

The two aren't really comparable IMO. Mata is certainly more consistent and has more technical ability but Bale is a lot more explosive. It wouldn't be the case of having one or the other in your team as you'd have the both of them.

I'm not really buying the whole "misleading assists" thing either. Bale could have 27 touches and score without anybody else touching but if he receives the ball off Walker then it's an assist. Doesn't matter how difficult or simple they are.

In issolation I agree but watching Mata this past 1 1/2, it is clear he is a massive influence in the amount of goals we score. Just take that ball he put in for Lampard yesterday. Deft and absolutely brilliant; made what was difficult look simple - the mark of a great player. If he was English, he'd be called the white Pele!!

I think we can both say here that Mata and Bale are brilliant players. Sometimes they are unplayable. One is a winger and one is a central playmaker. We can argue this topic for ages but at the end of the day, both would fit into any team in the world I'm sure. Mata against Spurs at WHL was a joy to watch. His passing, finishing, passion, not taking any of the **** Walker was giving him... he was a key factor as to why we got our best win of the season so far and as Spurs fans have said, that day we were the best team to come to WHL in a long time.

I wouldn't add Sandro or Kaboul/Vertonghen tbh... We're fine with Lamps/Ramires/Luiz/Mikel. And at centre back we have Luiz/England captain/Ivan/Cahill... Lennon on his day is a top player but not better than Hazard or Oscar in my opinion

I know it's an assist but Walker will make that kind of pass easily 3/4 times every game, there was nothing he added to the goal as it was all Bale but he still gets an assist.

You'll be out the CL by March 5th so you won't have that over them and they'll win the FA Cup anyway <ok>

Depends how many players in the game you think are World Class, I suppose. If you're getting to the point where much more than 20 players are World Class then you're just handing them out like sweets, if not we have over a third of the World Class players here in the Premier League which aint so bad for a league in decline.

Can Bale do short, intricate passes in tight spaces? I don't think so.

then you're a total muppet. Di Maria, Ronaldo, Robben and Ribery are all better.

Ronaldo's the only one,if Bale went to real,he'd take Di Maria's place,Robben and Ribery are both past their Prime, even you should know that Drogs,if you know anything about football.
