Eh, don't think so. However, had the squad been strengthened before the season began like it was in January then fifth place may have been a possibility again.

This unfortunately was glaringly obvious 6 months ago but was not acted on. The additional Euro fixtures would be a strain and if cup runs had taken place it would have been worse still. Strength in depth depends on depth of pockets or the willingness to invest. Ashley's pursuit of Rangers may have been given financial priority.
