Spot on Yankee, is it the baseball off season out with you? And more to the point how you coping with the weather pal? Here http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/rodgers-on-squad-racism-and-zenit is the link to Brendan Rodgers pre Zenit match interview which may give an indication of who we will be facing this weekend
I was all for Bartley playing this weekend and next, but a mate put forward perhaps Ash and Monk's experience of lower league play will be a plus in the final. I could see his point but ML has no such experience and I think he will not consider that, just choose who he thinks will fit best.
Hate snow - at least when we get three feet of the stuff in one shot. Luckily the temps dropped, it was windy and the snow was finer so that it didn't stick to trees or cables otherwise we would have been without power for days - it would have been a nightmare. Baseball spring training just started - pitchers and catchers reports back. I'm off to India today for two weeks so I'm going to be watching the "Pool game and the final long distance - hopefull!
I think we are forgetting how astute Buck is when watching teams. He already has Zenits formation and style sorted. Apparently they play 4-4-3. They are so confident they don't even need a goalie...... http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/rodgers-on-squad-racism-and-zenit Brendan or Brent? Fair play, he did us proud but comedy gold! I pass a motion that he shall now be called Brent'an Rodgers! Feel free to use it, there is no copyright in place.
Didn't realise the season was over. Lot of points still to play for and I'm still confident we'll finish above you as a club who has the better players and squad depth, and have spent the money that we have spent, should be doing, otherwise the Manager has badly underachieved, of which I'm sure BR will be aware of and perhaps worried about. I mean this with all due respect but I think most fair people would agree that for a club like Liverpool, to finish below Swansea's and WBA's etc in 9th, for the reasons above, would be a huge failure for the club and Manager. Sunday will be a completely different game than WBA for no other reason than Sturridge is fit again and the difference he makes to our team already is massive, and also a bit of a joke considering he's been here 5 minutes. We play much better in the final 3rd and present a much bigger threat. If he had of played last night I'm certain he'd of scored one of the 27 chances we had on goal and we'd of won comfortably. I'm worried about us having to play again tomorrow and then again Sunday, after already playing Monday, as some of our best players are starting to look tired, especially after 70 mins, and our squads not the biggest. If you can keep it 0-0 till half time, the stats suggest you will get at least a draw, as we've only won one game when its been 0-0 at HT. What we've seen this season is that if a team turns up and lets us have the ball and tries to hit us on the counter and from clever set pieces, teams can get a lot of joy against us. If Liverpool aren't winning by 0 mins that atmosphere in Anfield can become toxic and actually make things harder for our team and their heads just drop as their nearly all so mentally weak. ML will play to this as he's a good Manager. If teams try to play against us and higher up the pitch, we'll match them, get in behind and score goals. This is why we can perform against the top teams like Arsenal and City, but then play Stoke or WBA and fall to bits as they have our weaknesses pinned down. Our other big weakness is against big, strong, target men like Benteke, Lukaku, Kenwyne Jones who are a big threat in the air. The defenders just can't seem to dominate these players. Dunno if you have a striker like this, but if you do, he should play. I hope you turn up and really try to play against us and not deeper on the counter, as this will give us our best chance of winning now we have a proper out and out striker in Sturridge. If you play on the counter I think you have an excellent chance of getting at least a draw, or even more.
We played Man City off the park home and Away, the current champions and it widely agreed that we deserved to win both of those games, and we would have if Skrtel didn't produce a suicide pass back to the keeper and if Reina didn't think he was a CB for a second and come rushing out of his goal for no reason. The popular stat is we haven't beat the top teams therefore were ****, but that doesn't take into account that we have played Utd, City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs and by our performances were the better team against everyone of them for the majority of the game but committed silly individual mistakes that can't be legislated for that cost us heavily. Even these teams fans admitted after the games we were hard done by, particularly Utd and City at home were we they got lucky and admitted as much and against Spurs away whose fans said to me we deserved at least a point. We haven't got a win against them but this is because of bad luck (Everton away Suarez winner ruled offside when on) and not because of constantly getting played off the park by these teams.
They didn't have one shot on goal until the 80th min. They barely had a kick of the ball until the 80th minute. We should of been out of sight by them ut this is our problem when Sturridge doesn't play and Suarez has an off night. We don't have enough goal scorers throughout the front 4.
I remember falling under the same Brent'an Rodgers spell last year. Glad to see you are keeping the faith, but hope your run of failing to beat a top ten side lasts atleast 1 more week. Can I ask, is anyone mentioning plan B yet at the 'pool forums?
Toela 65. What a sad read your post was. All those nasty teams that won't let you beat them. Life can be such a bitch,eh? Why not tot up all the points you think have been denied your team, and send the details to the necessary football authorities. Don't forget to include a copy of your deeply moving post, and hey presto, you will no doubt be awarded the extra points, kind of posthumously. Any truth in the rumour that Rodgers has tossed his hat into the ring for the next pope?
Fair do's pal anyone can see your a passionate fan, however in black and white terms results show you haven't beaten any of the top teams whereas we have, as have many other teams, Southampton being the latest and against Man City too. Your point about NOT getting played off the park by these other teams is very valid especially as you keep the ball very well in your own 18 yard box ! ( Little joke there ) . All the best fella ! Has brenton, as Swim calls him got a plan B yet ? Have a read of our board especially the thread '' 5 things about Michael Laudrup'' it should interest you, the view of the writer from ESPN that is.
http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/sport/liverpool-football/2013/02/14/99623-32805249/ Well I'm looking forward to it even if he's not.
Getting his excuses in early? Maybe. Liverpool are a different animal with Sturridge though. Keep him quiet and we have a real chance, but my main concern isn't him, it's our worrying tendency to concede from corners and other set pieces. This really needs sorting.
All teams concede from corners and set-pieces, even Real Madrid. My impression is that we've improved considerably in that department this season?
Well they haven't got Andy Carrol but Agger and Skrtel like to mix it so they are a threat both from open play and set pieces and we concede from both facets of play so I wouldn't get too worked up on how we concede as long as we score more than them we'll be fine
Er....no we haven't improved on conceding from set pieces this season at all . Of course every team concedes from set plays but at one stage we were statistically the worst in the League (12 at Christmas which was a record at the time) and I suspect this trend has continued. Every time a corner gets whipped in I can't look. I'll have a look online to see if I can find some updated stats. [EDIT: Struggling to find the stats on conceding but we are bottom on scoring from set pieces. Just 3, all at home. Came across the fact that only Arteta has better passing stats than Ki and Leon which I thought was an interesting one]
Vetch my thoughts too, seems many of these scousers are living in cloud cuckoo land, and as far as I'm concerned we have the better team, and that is born out by our results against them, and the table! So let them continue in there deluded state, because if you take Suarez from them, they'd be shaking hands with QPR!........................
Knackered you will struggle to find confirmation, on us conceding at set pieces, and that's because we have improved immensely, we have been recognised as having one of the meanest defences these last few seasons, so credit where credit is due, I think you've got your wires crossed on this one! Just saying...........
I've gone back as far as Man city away 27/10.12 and by my reckoning (including the cup games) we've conceded 18 goals and 5 were from headers , the rest were from shots .But someone can check my workings . Southampton Sciederlin Newcastle Ba West ham Carrol Norwich bassong / Holt
