A little distraction for the next few days. I want to hear about your top 10 things about Spurs since the time you started supporting them. These could be matches, goals, players, managers, funny/emotional/nostalgiac moments, songs, kits... Anything you like. Should get a good variation as we have a broad age-range on here, so some may be grouped into the last 10 years while others could be over 50 years or more. If you don't feel like you can put them in order then don't worry as that could be quite challenging.

Born in 89 so all my memories will be fairly recent... So here goes (in no real particular order bar the last 2):

10: Getting my first Spurs shirt, was one that was sponsored by Holsten at the time.

9: My first real stand out memory of a Spurs game - Spurs vs Leicester and Sir Les bagged a hat trick.

8: Seeing Robbo score against Watford! "I was there when Robbo scored, I was there when Robbo scored!" Was the chant.

7: Getting my THFC tattoo at the age of 17, I'd wanted one for years to show everyone how proud I am to be a Spurs fan.

6: Being on BBC news when we re-signed Klinsmann I was outside WHL, the reporter asked me "How do I feel about his return?", I went all red and embarrassed and walked away <laugh>.

5: Dimitar Berbatov bagging 4 goals against Reading. The game itself was a cracker and Berbatov was simply unstoppable, one of the best individual performances I've ever seen.

4: My first away league game - Charlton, we won 2-0 and Berbatov got THAT goal where he flicked in round El Kaddouri and ran onto the ball, finishing a low shot into the far post, had the goal not been there, the ball would've come straight on to my feet! :D

3: Jermain Defoe bagging 5 goals and us beating Wigan 9-1, was unbelievable to see live.

2: Beating Arsenal 5-1 in the Carling Cup Semi... The best atmosphere at WHL I've ever witnessed, such a special night for me.

1: Spurs 2-1 Chelsea Carling Cup Final. My first time to see a match at Wembley and it will be one I'll never forget. I had a smile on my face for about 3 days after the game I think.

One extra bonus memory, just wanna state that I've been privilidged to have been able to watch some absolutely amazing players live over the years, I couldn't list them in my top ten memories individually as I'd run out of room but I've been forunate to see natural scorers in Teddy, Sir Les, JD, Keano, the oozing class of Berbatov, the French genius of Ginola, the ridiculous skill and creativity of Luka Modric, the lighting pace of Aaron Lennon, the joker and crowd favourite of Didier Zokora, a natural born leader in Gary Mabbutt, currently able to see the player who I rate as the best winger in Europe - Gareth Bale and saving the best 'til last - the greatest defender I've EVER seen, Mr Tottenham - Ledley King, I don't think we'll ever see a defender that'll reach the level of a fit Ledley.

1. Watching on tv Glenn Hoddle's volley against Forest.

2. Watching Glen Hoddle's similar volley but I cannot remember against whom.

3. Steve Archibald's header against Barcelona.

4. Ginola,all of it.

5. Seeing Gascoigne's 30 yard screamer in the FA Cup semi against Arsenal.

6. Bale's hat trick against Inter.

7. Crouch's goal to secure CL football.

8. Villa's goal against City in the FA Cup.

9. Watching Ossie.

10. Any win against London opposition. I actually posted these before seeing the inspiration and some of them are on it. Forgot Klinnsman's 4 goals. There are so many. COYS.
 
Being there the night we beat Sheffield Weds 2-1 to clinch the title. First step of the famous double. I was only a kid, but I'll never forget it. Massive crowd!..
 
1. Winning in the FA Cup 2-6 at Southampton. Rocket Ronnie's finest hour. I was skiiing in Austria at the time and took a night of the aprez ski to watch it, very much regretting my decision at half time when we were losing.
2. Spurs 9 Bristol Rovers 0 - one of many very memorable games we played in our relegation season. Probably the equivalent at the time of our more recent Wigan demolition which I didn't see live.
3. After getting relegated and going on the pitch with apparently a very large number of the crowd singing "we'll support you ever more". Would the same be true of modern fans?
4. Watching Hoddle take a free kick and being relatively sure that he would score. Sadly most in those days were not filmed and are lost to history (except in the memory of those who were there).
5. A long ball from Hoddle ahead of a sprinting Crooks who outpaces the defence and scores.
6. Anticipation of those games I used to go to on the 144 (maybe 123?) from Gants Hill with some school mates, paying with my pocket money to get in through the turnstile.

a few others if I think about it later...
 
mine are many,a few are childhood memories,winning the double,then our 5-2 demolition of Athletico Madrid to win the cup winner's cup,Watching Jimmy Greaves scoring goals,like they were going out of fashion,winning the cup in 67 the "cockney cup final" they called it,beating Chelsea in the final,out eufa cup win on Pens against Anderlect,the Spurs greats Hoddle,Ossie Ginola,and many others,to many to mention,and all our cup win's against London clubs.
 
1. Getting tickets for the Semi final , first at Wembley 91, from Arsenal Booking office (used letter heading from a London Embassy ) for myself and 4 friends.
Ending up in the middle of the gooners and behind the goal when Gazza scored that wonder free kick. When the second went in we unfurled a 6 foot star of
David flag (very silly young men then and none Jewish ) . We were instantly thrown out by security , luckily taken to the Spurs end.

2 . Ricky Villa's greatest F.A. cup goal 1981 . Watching with my late father . Dancing , kissing , embracing my father when it went in. This was my first taste of
glory I could clearly remember.

3. Going to Notts Forest as a schoolboy to watch our world cup winners first game. A draw against Clough's champions . Worked all Summer holiday to save
enough money, sweeping floors at my uncle's barber's in Crouch End to go to a few away games.

4. At the 9, 0 against Bristol Rovers. Colin Lee's first game ( it went downhill after that) . Watching with my father behind a man with an anonymous
wooden deafening rattle.

5. The penalty shoot out in the UEFA cup final 1984.

6. The excitement when Klinsman signed.

7.Listing to the radio when we were promoted from the old Second Division back to the first , at Southampton .

8. Ginola,s swagger. Bale in full flight. Berbertov's magic, Hoddle passing, Ardilles , Villa, Gazza,

9.The win at Man City to clinch Champs league football. Naive me thinking we would start challenging , but Levy had
other ideals . Watched the game with about 200 Spurs fans in Tunbridge Wells and going bonkers when the ref blew up.

10. The early 70,s team , a distance memory . the like's of Chiver's, Gilzean, Mullery, Jennings, Coates, Neighbour , Peters ,
Nice one Cyrill, Conn, England, even John Pratt.

My specific additions would be :

1. The 50,000 crowd for the 1978 game against Bolton (Div 2) .
2. The crowd at WHL in 1978 when we scored at our last home game.
3. The first game at WHL for Ossie and Ricky (the "ticker tape" torrent)

4. Bale against Inter at the San Siro.
5. Crouch goal at Wastelands to stuff Citeh.

That home game for our Argies was against Villa . We were well beaten but the ticker tape welcome for our Latin demi gods was worth it.

It was midweek wasn't it, against Villa? 0-2 as I recall - Andy Gray scored?

EDIT: just looked it up 4-1. No wonder I've a false memory. First game was 1-1 v Forest away, reigning champs, so good start. Let's forget the Liverpool game coming up <yikes>
 
A very interesting Thread WY.

I've been Spurs for over thirty five years., to choose just 'TEN top things' is near-on imposible for me. It would take me from now 'till Christmas to single out just ten, but even then I'll be wondering if I'd reached the right conclusion.

Through out the years, there has been a few (more then ten) Spurs players who have earned a place in my pantheon of football idols and I would feel disrepectful to those that I failed to mention or had to leave out. In this case, I think it best not to list any at all. I can speak of then as individual players but I will not attempt to list a best few.

As fans, I guess we can all remember moments of delight, but again, I can not define them in terms of a top ten. For me there has been so many great moments either at the Lane or simply watching in the Pubs and Bars,. I would require space on here for a top fifty, in order to do any listings justice.

One thing is for sure though., and that is my Holsten shirt. I will not part with it for love nor money and it goes everywhere I go. :smile:
 
1.) Gazza's free kick in the '91 semi. In fact, that whole match seemed to be the start of something special - until the accountants had some bad news for us...
2.) The 5-1 Carling Cup semi win over the Chavs. We hadn't beaten them for a decade at that point, so to not only get that win but to do it by that scoreline was a thing of beauty
3.) Reading that Klinsmann had signed.
4.) The other carling Cup 501 semi final win over London opposition in the previous decade...
5.) Ginola's goal vs Barnsley
6.) The entire match vs Inter at WHL
7.) Finally beating the Chavs in the league, 2006
8.) The final whistle going in the second leg vs Milan
9.) Stuffing Man Utd 4-1, 1996
10.) Winning at Old Trafford, and deserving it, 2012
 
So many great memories covered already so rather than repeat, just a few new ones....
1. Cyril scoring a fantastic freekick against Leeds at the Lane to keep us up in the last game of the 73 season.
2. Walking down the High Road in the 70's from Seven Sisters - savouring every moment as the crowds increase and the street sellers start appearing.
3. The UEFA cup Final 2nd leg v Wolves
4. Watching Mullery & Peters play so brilliantly for England in WC Mexico '70 - before that twat Bonnetti screwed it up!!
5. Getting Martin Peters autograph in a copy of the Glory Game in Smiths, Streatham High Road in 1971.
6. Seeing BMJ giving it large to The Whinger at Highbury!
7. Listening to my uncle telling me about the 61 Double team - but especially John White.

I've been thinking about this since yesterday. Unfortunately in the mean time, everything I'd thought of has now been mentioned!

Memories of mine, start in about 93-94. partly due to my DOB, but also the fact that I supported United as a small child. (every other kid on the playground did blah blah blah)

in no particular order

1. Beating Chelsea in the cup final
2. My dad coming home to tell me we'd signed Klinsmann after the 94 world cup. couldn't believe it!
3. My first game at WHL against Wimbledon
4. Demolishing Arsenal 5-1 in the cup
5. When we beat city 1-0 and qualified for the CL
5. The entire CL campaign, especially the home fixture against Inter
6. When we signed VDV
7. Ginola. Full stop.
8. Robbo's amazing Goal <laugh>
9. Beating Arsenal 3-2 away after being 2-0 down
10. Tottenham 9-1 Wigan
