I got into those stuart mcbride books...first few were a pale imitation of the ian rankin/rebus books - the last couple - shatter the bones and birthdays for the dead ( or something like - that have been superb ).

Read some ian rankin and then The Wasp Factory and The Crow Road by iain banks and we may grant you a visa after independance

Ian Banks is a dreadful writer. "The Wasp Factory" overated over-hyped pile o' ****e.

 

I don't know where the Wishaw stuff came from but I neither come from there nor live there

 

Maybe a wee bit over-rated but it was his first novel. The Crow Road and Whit are cracking books.

"The Crow Road" was ok-ish. Not read "Whit".

I much prefer reading James Kelman or Alisdair Gray.

By the way Jip, if you're looking for a good drama about modern life in Glasgow I would highly recommend the film Neds.

But to be fair nothing in Scotland compares to the ****tiness of the likes of Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester.
