Is it wrong that I feel a little sorry for the guy? Why did he come to London? he must have been told a deal had been done. Now all I hear today on the radio and in the newspapers that he was an idiot and that he acted unprofessionally. Not including the twitter outbursts, every time I have seen him interviewed he seemed to have a good head on his shoulders. poor advice or he is an idiot??
Possible a mixture of a bit of bad advice, but as he wanted the move he heard more than was actually said and acted on it, I feel sorry for him though.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...-Odemwingies-move-to-Queens-Park-Rangers.html Seems that WBA's Technical Director told him he could go.
Not wrong at all, my sentiments excactly. Now he is hounded round by press and fans in a much harder way than any of Marlon King, Lee Hughes or the Titus Bramble's of this world has ever been. Disgraceful.
They'd have wanted to give him some sort of medical once over before signing - so it made sense for him to be in the area as it was close to deadline day. WBA were negotiating so it wasnt unilateral. Felt really sorry for the fellow, he was very respectful in his "leaving" interview.
I don't think he did much wrong. As Harry said in the presser he drove down while the negotiations were still in progress because he wanted to be ready for the medical. Apparently Jenas's medical took 4 hours so there would not have been enough time had we struck a deal right at the end. Just so happens the cameras were at LR and snapped him in his car. But like so many players around the country yesterday, they got back in their cars and drove back when the deals fell through (DJ was at Blackburn yesterday too according to Harry). Wba wanted to play hard ball and now they have a dressing room disease on their hands. They're already on the slide, did they really need to do this?
I think the best that could happen for him now is WBA cancel his contract, then he can join us on a free. We can slip them some money as compensation, then everyone's happy. But I fear that WBA are just going to make him sit out his contract. Although I wonder if we tried to offload mackie as a make shift for them? TF said Hoilett wasn't going anywhere and 'arry said this morning that one player refused to leave as part of the deal, so I'm guessing mackie or maybe swp.
Good post. I think that's exactly how it is. If PO made one mistake, it was to mis-describe to the press why he was parked outside LR. If he'd made it clear it was "to deal with medical, formalities etc in case the deal came off", less would have been made of it.
I feel really sorry for him, he desperately wanted to sign for us [which must say something about his mental state!] and he thought he was doing the right thing by being in the W12 area. Obviously I don't know all of the facts and probably never will, but I get the impression that West Brom were making this deal as difficult as possible to be completed, as if to prove that they were in charge. Unfortunately I don't see any way back for Odemwingie at WBA now, his colleagues and the fans will surely turn against him. It will be a test of Steve Clark's man management skills!
He seemed really pleased to be here and was looking relaxed and thought the deal was done. It's sure to come out in the wash what really happened but the papers today are saying we couldn't agree on Hoilett going the other way as part of the deal. Didn't Jason Puncheon do something similar before we signed him on loan? I'm sure I heard that he just chanced it and was seen on SSN going up and down South Africa Road then his agent made a move. I bow to anyone's better knowledge if this isn't kosher.
Nigeria striker claims he wasn't given any written permission when he arrived at the Hawthorns from Lokomotiv Moscow in 2010 Peter Odemwingie has responded to criticism from West Brom that he acted "wholly unprofessionally" over his failed bid to move to QPR by claiming he joined the Baggies in similar circumstances three years ago. The Nigeria striker was at the centre of a transfer farce last night when he drove to Rangers to try and force through a last minute transfer. However, the Baggies quickly released a statement that the player had not been given permsission - while QPR refused him entry into their ground. Odemwingie has now admitted he was perhaps a "little unprofessional" but defended himself by claming the circumstances were not so different to when he joined West Brom from Lokomotiv Moscow in 2010. He also put yesterday down to a misunderstanding. "I came to this club (West Brom) in a wholly unprofessional way. I wasn't given any written permission by Lokomotiv Moscow but I arrived at this club. I did a medical, I don't think everything went so professional when I arrived," he told Sky Sports News today. Clarifying his comments, he said: "I'm saying that these things don't matter so much when adults are dealing with each other. "I think there was a misunderstanding somewhere because I could have held my goodbyes to the (West Brom) players if I was told it is not going to happen." Odemwingie felt he had been given the go-ahead from West Brom to complete his move to QPR, but conceded he did not have written permission. He said: "They (West Brom) didn't give me written permission, but you know we are in England and when you're gentlemen you understand each other so easily. "In my opinion, everything was done right and at the last moment, I don't know what really happened, but I think other people can answer this question as well. "We were almost there, the club were angry that I went there and it was on TV. They weren't angry that I went there, but when it came up on TV that's when they said that this deal is off and why did I do that. "So I understand the club to be honest, it was a bit unprofessional but we all know our positions and we were almost there." Asked if he felt West Brom technical director Dan Ashworth had given him the impression the move was fine, the 31-year-old said: "I can say yes. Anyway, we have to find a way forward that's suitable for everyone now. "The truth is we all went wrong somewhere. "The last day yesterday we found an agreement, and the only question from what I understood from the conversation was a player they wanted from QPR and the question was who was going pay his wages." Odemwingie is unsure what his immediate future at West Brom holds for him, but believes he is still likely to leave in the summer. Reports suggest that the striker was sent home after arriving for training this morning. He said: "I love the club, I love the fans, I did perform here, I did enjoy myself here. I will always love the club, no matter what's happened, but I will still leave, it's just a matter of time. "I'm not saying it in a harsh way. I mean my contract is going to run out in a year and a half, I wasn't offered an extension here. "What I mean is my career as a whole will end one day, so will my contract here at West Brom. We're not enemies, it's all about football at the end of the day, it's nothing personal. "There's nothing maybe illegal from any side, but maybe things went wrong, maybe a bit unprofessional, but with that we almost still got there." On what might happen now regarding his West Brom career, he added: "I believe if West Brom brought me back here they think there is a way out in which I can be back on the pitch and give my best to the team." Speaking outside the club's training ground, Odemwingie said: "I've had a chat with Dan Ashworth this morning and the club will say more later. "I have been given a few days off and will be back in training next week." http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/peter-odemwingie-reckons-he-acted-the-same-1568797?
I do feel sorry for PO as seems a genuinely nice fella but if the end of the story is unrest in the WBA camp, I am not unhappy! I find Clark annoying, ungracious and condescending to QPR.
Most likely it's Odemwingie's agent at fault - certainly QPR did not speak with him yesterday because a deal had not been reached between the clubs, but somebody had certainly let him to believe that a deal had been reached. But it wasn't anything QPR did wrong.
I can't see that QPR did anything wrong save for 'Aary, who can't help talking about other team's players.
Every manager talks about players they would like - big difference between that and talking to a player before you have permission to do so.
I love this new fad of not being able to mention any players' names unless they play for you. Like it's some sort of cardinal sin. It's been going on in football since it began, get over it. Every manager has done it.
