Clearly Nic reckons Nigel was not getting enough from our squad then. Time will tell. Must say, makes the manager change just a bit more strange to me.
Just because we have only made one signing doesn't mean we weren't after more. I think our team is strong barring any injuries, so I don't agree we are certs for relegation, but would have liked some back up. Don't think Nicola wants any more players on the books that are just not good enough. He obviously thinks that we will be safe this season (strange for a man with nerves of pure jelly when watching games) and is saving money for the summer.
Not much activity for us on deadline day perhaps but there's sure to be plenty going on elsewhere. This sums it up fairly well:

Changing the manager as well as bringing in little or no reinforcement will run that statement pretty close IMO thats all.
Our relegation rivals are spending. I'm not saying throw money at it twitchy Redknapp style, but we worked so hard to get where we are, I hope we havent tried to punch too far above our weight with signings when our rivals like seem to be getting a few bargains.

agree 100%. we may well stay up without any extra signings but an extra body or two to cement our position would certainly make me/all of us happier/less nervous.
Either that or we should use the money saved to invest in the UK's supply of cotton wool to wrap around Lambert, Lallana and Puncheon!
Butland moving to Chelsea would be career suicide for someone so highly rated. Chelsea probably have the best young keeper in the world on their books, and wouldn't be surprised for them to sell Cech in the summer and replace him with Courtois, leaving Turnbull as backup.
