? What - making an expensive mistake?? There's taking a chance and taking a chance - and then there's panic buying with an open cheque book. Mind you, it worked out well for you and Torres......
We have until Thursday to do something more in the window because Holtby just isn't enough. I'm in two minds about Hooper and District, you think Defoe is competent?
Its not about us or Torres. Lets not assume David Villa is going to be a flop here, he's suffered from injuries but his game never was solely based on blistering pace like Torres. For all Wenger's faults defensively, it's very rare he signs a striker that actually flops. As a Chelsea fan I'd be worried if they signed him and he showed even a fraction of the form he showed 3/4 years ago I've always rated Defoe, met him on holiday one year and was really nice, let me take a picture with him in my Chelsea shirt. There could be argument Defoe doesn't do it in the big games against top drawer defenders but he's by a mile the best striker you have and 2nd only to Rooney in terms of striking options.
"Villa, who missed much of last season after breaking his leg, is still Barcaâs second-leading scorer in 2012-13 with 10 goals, behind only Lionel Messi, who has netted an astonishing 44 times."
Do you know I think everyone rates Defoe higher than most Spurs fans do. Is that because we see more of him or we are just too used to him and don't appreciate what we have?
How the hell is Giroud a 'flop'? He has scored 13 goals and provided 11 assists for us this season. This is his first season in a new league and country, so that's pretty good.
Giroud a flop? First season on English football and he's scored a fair few goals, not a flop IMO. Gervinho I agree but I have no idea where Wenger intended on playing him
He scored three goals against 'lower league clubs'. So, not really. Also as you found out on Sunday, scoring against so called 'lower league' teams is not that easy.
I agree with DL. Villa could be the difference. He's top quality, even if he's pricey. It's money well spent if they ensure 4th. They've spend so little in recent years and sold for fortunes, so is it really going to be that big a problem if it fails?! Spurf- we don't realise what we have with Defoe. He might not be everyone's cuppa, but he's a predator who you'd soon miss if he left.... We brought him back don't forget!
I could easily believe if he was playing for another club we would be suggesting we sign him. Sometimes it's easy to undervalue people closest to you.
The impact and lift new signings give to he rest of the squad is often overlooked. Despite what the press say most players welcome new signings, it boosts competition and takes the weight off their shoulders. Drogba was woeful in a Chelsea shirt until Shevchenko came in and he got his act together. Mata was great last season but infinitely better once Oscar and Hazard signed and he had competition. You can draw many different comparisons with every club but new signings can get the best out of each player. My biggest fear re: Arsenal signing Villa is the potential damage he and Cazorla could to together. Cazorla's form has dipped but that signing could reignite him and if it does Arsenal are well and truly in the race for top 4. As crap as Torres has been and still is I actually think he's looked a lot hungrier and worked a lot harder since Ba came in, once you know you aren't guaranteed to start every game, you tend to work harder and up your game.
I thought that Barca had already ruled out selling Villa in this window? Not really a Wenger signing, either. Goal.com?
Real Mallorca think they are signing a world class right back. Little do they know, it's Hutton dressed as Lahm!! Alright...alright.....I'll get my coat.
Giroud is premature, he's not showing his France form but I wouldn't call him a flop, yet. Park and Chamakh on the other hand
