Looking at it a different way, which teams would we like to see go up automatically so we don't have to meet them in the play-offs (if we don't get one of the automatic places)?
Well cardiff are already up and I think Hull are the next best, so them 2, I would also like to meet the best team in the play offs in the semi's with the away leg 1st as our counter football would be so good over 2 legs, don't think any team in this league could beat us when they need to push forward
Having read all of this thread I hope you won't mind if a 'non Watford' person posts his views. Mods, if this is a problem, please feel free to delete this post - no problems. 1. Firstly, and please don't take this as patronising in anyway. My first thought was how well balanced and constructive the posts are on here. Believeme, some of the threads on some of the premiership boards, including our own (Norwich) beggar belief. They really do. 2. From what I've seen of you this season, which admittedly has only been on TV, I think you will go up. Possibly not in one of the automatic places, but I think you could well take the 3rd place. Unfortunately I think that Cardiff and leicester, just have a little too much. It's a shame Dave Jones isn't still manager at Baaaadiff, because you could almost put money on them bottling it again Remember Reading last year? They came from nowhere really to go up in style. Why couldn't you? From what I remember, you're already in a better position than they were this time last year. A couple of posters have pointed out that if you do go up, then it may be too soon for you as a club. A few years ago (literally) my club were in a shambles. Nearly bust, in the 3rd tier for the first time in my memory. We went on a crazy journey. 2 consecutive promotions, and some of us were thinking it was too soon and that we may go down and lose belief etc. Good crowds, a good young manager and an excellent board have proved that we are a decent 'little' team that can survive in the premiership. There are certain comparisons between my team and yours. A good young manager, who is also well respected. A board that seems to back the manager by letting him get on with the football side of things, and the fact that they genuinely seem to have the club's best interests at heart, and not see you as a plaything. We are lucky in the fact that we are the only club in Norfolk, so if people want to watch football they will come to us, which does help with getting decent crowds every home game I really do hope that you go up this year, as I think you would be good for the premiership. There are already at least 3 premiership teams that are not as good as you, from what I've seen so far, and to be honest, this is what you have to concentrate on for the first couple of seasons. Good luck for the rest of the season. Hope to visit your ground next season in a PL match. Sorry if I have rambled on. ps. If I felt it was ok to vote, I would have voted for you to go up, probably through the play offs though.
No problem coming onto our board and commenting - much appreciated I think most of our fans felt this season was a seaon too early for us to be a serious contender to go up. A new manager, a number of new players, playing a new style, it was always going to take a while to settle and perform consistently (as consistent as anyone can be in the Championship). It does seem to be coming together - and of course there will be some blips, like Charlton at home the other week, but some of the football we are now playing is a joy to behold. From early on, it was there in small portions of the match, but we are seem to be getting the formula right, and not sure there is a better counter-attacking team in the division. As for this season. I'd personally say we can get a play-off place. Saying that, if you are in a play-off place, you won't be far off 2nd. If we do make it up, with the players at our disposal, and if we can keep the core of this team and add a little strength, there is no reason why we can't finish 15-17th next seaon in the Prem. A lot of if's though....
As I said, there are similarities between you and us when we went up and also reading last year. If you do go up, I think you will be very similar to us and hold your own. From what I've seen this season, you will certainly not be doing a Reading.
I'm not sure that "doing a Reading" is necessarily a bad thing. You could have said "doing a West Brom" a few years back. If you bounce between the Championship and Premiership two or three times and watch your finances while you do it then you create a much stronger club. Having said that Stoke, Norwich and Swansea have all made it up and then stayed up perhaps a little before their fans thought they were reay so why not us? Here's hoping - and thanks for you contribution to our board Maestro
great to see you on our board Maestro, and thanks so much for contributing, especially as it's so positive . I agree with you Why not us..and why shouldn't we be able to stay up? I believe we can do it, this season...and i also believe we will (i have 12/1 riding on it! lol)
If you do go up H, I may not be so positive. I forgot that our record against you isn't that good. Will be having the bbc text coomentary of your games open next to my stream now on matchdays <closet hornet?>
You lot are my tip to finish 2nd. I love the way you play, very refreshing. And with Vydra, well he's just top class.
We did indeed, but the fact is you beat us, so my statement that our record against you isn't that good, still stands
Best get the Minx to serve teas and coffess only in the meangerie then. Don't want you coming back to your board sloshed after visiting her
