Oh, dios mio, I forgot about what Baz might have left us with...Please just let it be a fine, please.
I have said for a few games now that I would be very happy with loosing in the play-offs. I think it might do more harm than good for us to be promoted. To even be in a position to be promoted would be a fantastic step forward for the club.
Completely agree with this And this. I took longer to get over the sacking of Dyche than anyone, but even for me, the expectation was that this season, transitional though it may be, had to be better than the last to justify the decision. I'd have taken top ten. But I disagree with this. I believe we have the core of a team that could stay in the Premier League. Even if I'm wrong, financially we're in better hands than we were after any of our three relegations from the top flight, and the players we would normally be terrified about losing for peanuts would still have ages left on their contracts.
Very true. Going through the squad, IMO there are very few of the 'regulars' with question marks over their heads about whether or not they could cope in the EPL. I'm not sure I'd like to start naming names (in case they read these boards ), but I'm sure they would be in others minds too.
Oh, Matej Vydra isn't ready for the Prem yet though (and I'll keep saying that until he signs a Watford contract )
Ok, I didn't really want to make a decision on this one yet, but might have felt swayed more after our next two games. So far this season we have only managed two wins on the bounce, never a third. The Forest game will follow two wins and the BC game will be against a team fighting for their place in the league. Win those and I will believe anything to be possible. So with my well known caution I think I will go for a place in the playoffs, and we will thump Carduff who will have been on a long slump.
Can I take the fifth and wait till we find out what if any punishment the FA/FL hand out to us! As that will define our season IMHO
Ticked automatic, hard to see a team that are better than us technically in the league, the 2nd half of the season was always going to be better than the 1st as players begin to jell. if we manage to keep Vydra (which we will) and don't get points deducted (which I strongly doubt we will) then I think we will come 2nd only to cardiff, Burnley in the play offs and then all 3 of our last 3 managers in the prem at the same time!
From several different people have heard that we will be fined (6 figure) and receive a 10 point SUSPENDED sentence . Hope this turns out to be true ,we are meant to know by the end of the month.
"We have a core of a team" that we don't own. It still makes me nervous that they are only on loan and what will happen next season whether we go up or not. The first couple of months this season was GZ finding his best team and getting them to gel, which now they seem to and have been much more consistant through Nov and Dec. If we get a whole new crop next season it will be like starting all over again. Sorry haven't worked out the multiple quote bit yet. Playoffs but stay in the Championship me thinks.
They could but the question as others have said does not allow for losing in the play offs. As closing date is 22 Feb I am not voting till the next couple of games are done as like OFH I think they are critical - win those I vote one way lose them and vote another - at the moment I would vote play offs
Agree with you on all three here. Promotion is only bad if you mishandle the finances - the Pozzos wont do that
Wow, just read through the comments and there are some very optimistic people on this page!! A strange sight on a Watford board, but good to see. Now guys, let's not get ahead of ourselves because our last couple of games have been excellent. We are on a good run, but as we know in the Championship a run of 5 wins is just as possible as a run of 5 losses. I still believe the squad is very much in transition, and will be for the rest of the campaign. Yes we beat Hudderfield 4-0, but only a couple of weeks ago we put in a very naive performance and lost 4-3 to Charlton in a game we shouldn't have lost. Anyone is capable of beating anyone on the day, and the table is still very tightly packed. Yes we look good, better than the average team in this division, but there is a long, long way to go. I think we will lost steam and finish just outside the play-offs in my opinion. Then again, this Championship division is very average. No doubting we have a chance for promotion, I just cant see it happening. Yet.
emiatss I actually think it was slightly Zola's fault that we lost to charlton I was at the game and the 2nd the team sheet was read out everyone was groaning, almost like he was playing a reserve side with the game against man city in mind. I think the advantage we have over every other squad is the massive depth, and player (except for possibly Vydra and Almunia) get injured they can be replaced by a player of similar quality, name another championship side that can do that!
All fair points goldenboy, and we do have a very large squad. Yet if we go on a four-match losing streak, and I obviously really hope we dont, our squad wont look particularly deep. A few good results and everything does seem a lot more positive. Just trying to find some perspective! If we are still in the play-offs this time in four weeks I will definitely have changed my mind on this subject
Looks like the first week in April is going to be an important one. The team I would not like us to meet in the play-offs is Hull. They looked the strongest side we have played at The Vic. To beat them in April would be do wonders for our confidence if we did have to play them in the play-offs.
