Joan Verdu looks like it's going to happen. Would add a lot of competition for places and a bit of quality, knows MP's style and is available at a good price. I'd be happy with that. Was voted amongst the 50 best players in La Liga last season.

I had a brief scan of the AS piece on us visiting Barcelona that was tweeted by one of the media guys and Verdu's agent is quoted as saying "no-one from Southampton has called me" so I wouldn't say that's quite a done deal.

Asked about Ricardo Alvarez as well according to James Horncastle - European Football Writer. Contributes to BBC Sport, Guardian Football Weekly, Fox Soccer, The Blizzard, The Score, FourFourTwo

Gazzetta claim Southampton have inquired about Inter's Ricky Alvarez [prospective offer too low] + Coutinho [prospective offer €11m].

If anyone goes on Twitter ignore the Coutinho is having a medical at Southampton rumours. I saw the original tweet and it came from a Sky Sports parody account called Sky Sports Sources, looks legit at a quick glance but clearly a wind up.

Pretty obviously false considering media team and manager are in Barcelona.

What does the media team and manager have to do with a medical.

Nothing, but he's not going to have a medical in Southampton and then hang around for a week until the important people are back to conclude the deal.

Although having said that, Clyne signed for us while the team was in Évian for pre-season so you never know I suppose.

I'm sure they could do the medical and sign the necessary paperwork in Milan if necessary and then fly him straight to Barcelona for all the media stuff.

Not that I'm suggesting that is happening or will happen.

Saw Coutinho interviewed and he wants to stay at Inter.

Doesn't matter what he wants, Inter are after another Brazilian but need to sell to raise the cash. They were hoping to sell Alvarez but no one has come in. So their next choice is to sell Coutinho, this is being said by their fans as well as the journo's

with our links to Italy through NC nad our links to Argentina/Spain through MP I'd be surprised if we wern't at least linked with a host of Inter players. With their need to raise quick funds I can see us pushing something through towards the end of the transfer window for one or two of these talented players, even if it's on loan with a view to buy.

I'm excited about the future I have to admit. being linked with International footballers and talented individuals whilst also re-itterating the policy of brining through the younger players is bloomin marvellous.
