Ashley Cole, 32, has become the highest paid defender in world football after negotiating a one-year contract with Chelsea worth just under £200,000 a week.

    Full story: Daily Mail

Just perusing the BBC gossip column quickly and saw that... Hoping this is not true, i want him to stay. but those wages are a mockery. Obviously its the daily fail but hey ho.

I wonder where the Daily Mail gets its info! Did they have a press conference and say that he'll be signing up for £200k a week? In the present climate I doubt any other club would have come close to offering him that! Dont get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Ash but what the deal was --only the Club, Ash and his agent would know!

Like you say, no one really knows what he's on and one paper that sure as hell don't is 'the fail'.

Ultimately it's a great signing for us, lifts morale a little and keeps him out of United's reach. Gives Bertrand another season to hopefully be in a better position to take over in 18 months time.

I can't see Bertrand being our future left back. He's just not good enough. The last 3 managers have used him as a defensive midfielder, they can't all be wrong about it can they?

It's not a case of being wrong, more that he wont get a sniff whilst Ash is fit. The fact he's getting games playing out of position must also suggest he is rated.

What I can't wotrk out is whay he's still called cashley, for demanding an extra 5K , yet walcott held out for 100K and he's the saviour of gooner land!

Because Ashley left and bettered himself. Funny thing is, a load of Gooners don't even rate Walcott.

Are their fans anymore fickle than the goons?

Don't believe for a second he's near £200K. That said, one more year will definately see us squeeze the last of his talent in a Chelsea shirt.
He was looking for 3 years at big wages, no one made the offer.
Same sort of deal for Lamps, 1 year on same salary, would be a good move for us and Lamps.
Bertrand can replace Ashley, he just needs to play half a season in the left back position and he will be a winner for sure. Meantime he gives us plenty from midfield.

Without even reading the article I can hazard a guess it's Neil Ashton, in which case it's BS. Consistently wrong on all things Chelsea and months ago claimed we were finalising a deal for Lampard's contract extension. He's a typical South London Chelsea-hating Palace fan.
