Yes i know he plays for THEM, but is this not one of the craziest laws still in excistence in football.

You have possibly your best player, and are scared to play him as you are afraid to lose him, due to a ban, not this season but next.

What say he left in the summer, and found a new club, would his new employers suffer, and would that be fair.

It's a strange ruling this one.

NEWCASTLE United’s Cheik Tiote has been backed to clean up his act next season.

The midfielder is expected to be left out of the club’s last two games after picking up his 14th booking of the season against Birmingham City.

Another yellow would mean an automatic three-game ban for Tiote, pictured, which would carry over to next season.

I would bet that Newcastle are preparing to lose Enrique, Nolan, and possibly Barton. Not to mention Tiote. If they lose those 3, and keep ahold of Tiote... then they are without 4 of their best players come the start of the season.

It is a ludacris rule but they are lucky in a sense that they dont have much to play for now except finsihing above us and although that is important I dont think it is as important as risking your best player to be missing for 3 games next season.

I can think of a few more silly laws, like being booked for celebrating

If the ban doesn't carry over then it gives license to players to challenge recklessly...if the tackles warrant a card then take the punishment. I can't see what is so wrong with the rule. I wouldn't like to see players "getting away" with poor tackles or out right foul play....this applies to every player and not just Tiote.

You know the rules so stick to them!

It is a bit harsh. 14 booking's though, that has to be some sort of record. Didn't he miss the start of the season too? Add to that his game ban for 5, and 2 game ban for 10 bookings. Tiote must be getting booked evey other game.
