Just read that in the paper version on the Mail ITI. Wondered how long it would take for someone to post the link. <ok>

All sorts of rumours and speculation in the media but not much on us apart from the Derby full back Brayford. Feelings on here are mixed about Jerome but he would certainly bring something different and positive to us plus good Prem experience.

We can only wait and see as the club won't go public until the deal is done.

I drink with a Burnley fan and he says that no one up there is talking about austin. He was definitely injured but they don't think it was as bad as made out and they think he has been sold.

I would take Cam over Austin, Cam will score for fun in our league, assuming we can make the chances for him. Austin is just a big lump of a target man, and Austin will defo not suit our style of play.

I wasn't impressed with Austin when we played Burnley. A fairly good player but will be over priced.

Agreed hampshire. Austin didn't get a sniff against us - he could provide us with another option but at what price?

Can't see Jerome coming whilst Stoke are still in the FA cup after last night's win. Pulis will want to have the option.

At 19 goals so far this season, I'd beg to differ. I think he's exactly what we need and with nimble, fleet-footed wingmen either side he's going to score even more for us. I'm all for him.

Sorry to disagree Glam but I don't rate him either. While he clearly knows where the back of the net is, against us he looked slow and ponderous and behind the game apart from one shot in the first half. I suspect defenders have now sussed him out hence he is not scoring so regularly.

Not worth the figure mentioned above. I would prefer Jerome but don't see that happening until maybe after 26th Jan if Stoke were to go out of the cup.

Daily Mail's tip of the day is that Charlton want Marvin Sordell. Also unlikely after his 2 goals last night. Charlton certainly couldn't afford a full transfer fee if Bolton wanted to recoup the full £3.5m they paid for him.

I would take Cam over Austin any day.

Cam - Europa League and Premiership experience.
Played for - Stoke, Brum, Cardiff, Middlesbrough.

Austin - Championship. 3 years ago he was working on a building site.
Played for - Burnley, Swindon, Poole, Hungerford Town.

How can you make a judgement on a player just on how he played against us? I could say the same then about Zaha he wasn't exactly good against us does that mean he's not a good signing?

He didn't get the service in the game against us and the two chances he did have he got on target and made Marshall pull off two great saves....

He's a goal scorer what we need!

Cameron Jerome is not look at his record 6 goals in 33 appearances for stoke not exactly prolific then look at Birmingham 37 goals in 181 appearances

We could also point out that Criag Noone was a roofer does that mean he's no good either

We said we need a strong tall target man who can score goals

Charlie Austin - 6ft 3inch, powerful and strong, only 23,it's not just a flash in the pan he scored loads last season and for every club prior to that(1 goal 2 games) and be on a third of the wages Cameron would demand

Cameron Jerome - 6ft1inch powerful and strong, but does have decent pace to go with it! But goal ratio since leaving us has been poor, but how many of those games have been in the PL or Championship? I don't know
His wages would a huge stumbling block and I can't see stoke selling for less then 4mil. I can't see Austin costing much more initially maybe Addons would take both deals to the 6mil mark if promoted

I just fancy taking an unknown entity to the PL if we are promoted Cameron Jerome has been there and haven't impressed me, where Austin reminds me of Lambert and Holt mould started from nowhere and worked there way up and know that they don't want to end up back where they started

Late boy, you've sold Austin to me :) having made I comments about Jerome earlier (and I stand by them) I would say Austin appears the better option, younger, possibley a better attitude than Jerome and younger.
For me, Jerome gives up too easily and is happy to coast in a game. I have very limited knowledge of Austin but he appears to have the tools required of an out and out old time centre forward, please correct me if I have miss-read anything to bring me to this conclusion.

Late boy are you Charlie Austins agent. If not you should be.
I wasn't saying he was no good, only that he didn't impress against us.
He has certainly scored goals wherever he has played but signing any striker is going to be a gamble.

Typical of our luck in th e transfer market.
Sordell got a rare start against Sunderland last night and scored both goals. I suppose that means noe either they won't sell or his price will go up.
    Bugger!

No your right! he wasn't great against us but name one Burnley player who was?

We just out played them in every position and every transfer is a gamble just look at Maynard!

I'd get Austin, Brayford, Baptiste and Boyd

The later two out of contract end of the season and like I've said on another post be a coup.

If we got those I would be delighted and would be confident! not just being promoted but going up as champions

We got to invest its shows that the teams that strengthen in January have a stronger chance of going up

Austin would provide something we don't have at the moment, and that's a viable option up front.

I'm not convinced he's in the Lambert mould, but there are definite similarities with the guy that effectively took Southampton up last year.

Jerome is a bit of an enigma for me. Didn't particularly like him when he was with us (unlike Earnie), and he hasn't exactly shone since, but he has a pedigree that Austin lacks.

Expensive pedigree or cheap (relatively) mongrel?

What it would be to have a crystal ball eh?

It's hard to argue with 19 goals at this level in a team as mediocre as Burnley.

I have to agree that you can't ignore the facts and Austin has a goal every other game record over the last 3 seasons. Against that he has dried up a bit compared to the first quarter of the season after he played against the mighty Cardiff.

I think the £4m mentioned above would be too big a gamble on him but if it was £2m up front with performance related add ons, that might work.

However, i haven't seen mention of him coming to us anywhere apart from this site - H Bomb's Twitter item above. I've seen nothing in the mainstream media.

Are we now starting rumours in the faint hope they come true? Not knocking it as, if nothing else, it gives us something to talk over and speculate on.

It is all speculation same as it is with Jerome Brayford and many other players! The bookies have us as one of the favourites to sign him, so where they get there information from I don't know!

We do need to spend it proved pivotal last season and the season when the Riddler pulled the fast one over us and said of we all renew our ST they invest it all on new players! And it wasn't it was to bail us out, if they came out with the truth I'm sure we would still of bought the tickets just didn't like the way it was done! (Anyways lets not go off topic!)

How about Warnock looks like Aston Villa wants rid? A good left back! There is plenty of options that are available to us such as Baptiste and Boyd players running out of contract
