Another lad linked, seems canny. I like how things are starting to heat up for us with the impending arrival of Remy...

    http://thespectatorsview.com/2013/01/13/newcastle-after-standard-liege-ace/?

After having undercooked the transfer incomings in the summer and admitting so, the scouts at St. James’s park have been working overtime this January. And the latest name rumored to be coming in is Standard Liege’s defensive midfielder William Vainqueur.

Vainqueur is s a Frenchmen (surprise-surprise), who started out at now fallen French giants Nantes, making his debut in 2006-07 season before signing for the Belgian giants before the start of the 2011 season.

The news is that Vainqueur has fallen out with the coach at Standard liege Mircea Rednic and could be available for a knock down price of £2.5million. Newcastle are not the only side that are chasing his signature with Southampton also rumored to be in the hunt for the lad.

Belgian footballers are famous for their technical ability and I am sure Vainqueur is also one of those who is neat and tidy on the ball with good technical ability. So far Vainqueur has played 44 league games for the Belgian club and has scored 3 goals in the process, all of them coming in this season which is good record for a defensive midfielder. The player also brings with him experience of playing in the Europa league.

Newcastle have been looking for central midfielder, according to the tabloids anyway, with the likes of Yann M’villa of Rennais and Moussa Sissoko of Toulouse being strongly linked with a move to the club.

I understand the need for a strong squad but midfield is one place where Newcastle is very well stocked with the likes of Cabaye, Anita, Marveaux, Perch, Tiote and Bigirimana all having established themselves. However, it appears as though Pardew is intent on bringing in another midfield player to reinforce a precariously injury-prone set of players. It could also mean an end at the club for someone like Dan Gosling who has failed to nail down a regular spot in the first team.

We as fans would want players who are capable of doing justice to the jersey and if Vainqueur can do that, he would be appreciated by all and sundry at the club.

Let’s hope Vainqueur, which means ‘conqueror’ in English, can come to the club and can conquer all that there is for the club to conquer.

With Cabaye's injuries and Tiote constantly suspended I think our midfield can look lightweight. I'd welcome this guy. Just hope it doesn't mean Tiote is leaving.

Good, we just need more bodies in atm.

This is exactly the sort of signing I want, low price, low wages. I'd rathre sign 5 players for 2mill than 1 for 10

I agree but only if they turn out to be better than the green players we have that will never ever be purple in my honest opinion.

    *Sighs*
All NUFC needs is a CB to replace Willo, a LB to replace Taylor and a Striker to replace Cisse.
Don't look for France, Douglas, Martins Indi both could do the trick on CB. Rosales is a bit of a risk but probably a tiny bit better than Taylor.
Siem de Jong, Jeremain Lens and Wilfried Bony you want, not these vaguely hyped Frenchies!

I think you are harsh on Cisse he hasn't been privided a half decent chance for months and he's played right wing for most the season!! He's a player that needs supplying as he's a finisher not a dribbler or hold up player to be fair. Once Remy and Ben Arfa are either side of him and cabaye behind him you will see what I mean.

Sorry but Cisse is technically inept, his first touch is woeful and his passing is ****.
I rate all the players I mentioned above way better than Cisse

Well I'm sorry to say but your wrong - he needs supplying in a different way like he was last season - he is simply not used to long ball feeding off the scraps - our set pieces are the worst in football.

In my opinion you can't blame him. when was the last proper chance he had? I think it was the one he scored.

say what you like but hes 1 goal in 2 since going back down the middle and had about 2 proper chances.

I'm just ot sugarcoating it. He is a dreadful player, he might not have the perfect supply but he is a striker and he needs to make his own chances, he simply doesn't. Alongside BA I already thought he was not good enough for the EPL. Without BA he's even worse. He is clumsy, lacks technical skills and has almost no vision at all on the pitch. All I've seen in the past few weeks were bad first touches, crappy headers and powershots that flew into the second row. Other than that he is a real world class striker.:steam:

I disagree and overall his goal scoring record is pretty good actually and the stats peak for themselves. The fact is a stiker needs the team to get the ball into dangerous areas and we wont right now. He was upfront on his own yesterday in a game in which we didnt create a handful of chance. We can revist this argument once he has Benny, Remy and Cabaye to assist him. The fact is when sides are playing badly the strikers dont get the service. I don't agree at all that all strikers should make their own chances as theor are different types of strikers and they need feeding in different ways.

Anyway you didn't answer when was his last proper chance ?

It was the one he scored mate. I think your right about his first touch, however it wasn't like that last season so for me it's just confidence, once he has a few more games in his best position and we atrt playing better football and he has better players around him we can draw a better conclusion but right now we have worse players in our side. Jonas for me has been our worst player this season and as for Williamson well what can I say.

Why has a thread about a potential midfield signing developed into a row over Cisse?

Hopefully this guy is a plan b for if we don't get Sissoko. That said, unless he's had a frontal lobotomy he will be better than the 2012-13 season Tiote.

Totally agree. On this season's evidence if we could still get £15-20m for him I'd snap the buying clubs arms off. Bigi is the future in that position.

    THIS!

We NEED a new CB (2 if Colo goes). Has to be our no. 1 priority. We have Tiote, Bigi, Perch & Anita who can all cover the DM role, but at CB we are terribly exposed.
