Being totally honest I don't think that we will get 4th this season. However, until it is mathematically impossible we must continue to strive to achieve that.

I totally understand what Shogun is trying to say and I am using logic to act as devils advocate. What realy got up my nose was TB's attitude.

What got up your nose was the fact that I shredded your argument ;)

Dave - I think your logic is spot on. I can't think of many teams that can sustain a whole season without a poor run at some point.

I also believe that the best indicator of future behaviour, is past behaviour and your comment that for the last decade (Moyes tenure) Everton have always had a season of two halves (my interpretation of what you said) - then it is quite within logic to say that this season will also be a season of two halves, the difference being the winning half coming first instead of second. Can I presume that you aren't stating as fact that the second half will be worse - more like a possibility based on stamina etc?

You shredded nothing as you have little understanding of what logic actually means,

It depends on the rationale anyone would use for the usual and recent better performances in the second half of the season by Everton.

    If you think that

    1. The reason for the above is that Everton can only sustain good performances over one half of the season (smallish squad of quality players, stamina, ) then it is reasonable to postulate that Everton will not do as well later this season.

    However if you think,

    2. That the reason for the better second half of season performances in recent past is the relative slowness of the team/squad to get into their stride and only gets fully motoring after December then the assumption is that Everton will keep going and may get even better in the second part of the season. <ok>

haha, what a shocker that you've piped up to attempt to argue black is white, given that I'm involved <doh>

He was attemtping to use our history under Moyes in order to somehow 'prove' that we'd fall away, that history has in recent years always seen us be stronger in the 2nd half of the season, so he shot himself in the foot by attempting to use it. When this was pointed out to him he decided that we'd probably be worse in the 2nd half of this season, due solely to our better 1st half - which not only went against his own use of 'history' but is also based on nothing whatsoever.

How can you conclude that stamina will play a part btw, given that historically we've been better as the season goes on? What brilliant logic have you applied there like?

In addition, this season we'll have a couple of key players (Mirrallas & Gibson) returning from injury towards the latter stages, having barely played at all this season. Plus the window is still open & I fully expect Moyes to bring in 1 or 2 before it shuts.

Everton under Moyes have shown that they have always had two halves to a season. What Dave said is sound logic based on past performance. It doesn't necessarily mean that Everton will have a poor second half to the season, but as I said past performance - which is all we have to work on - could lead you to believe this season will follow suit.

I don't know what will happen in the rest of the season. Everton could end up 3rd or 4th, they are having a tremendous season so far. I just can't see a fault with Dave's logic hence my commenting on it.

You really should look at the factual basis of your own arguments. You base yours on no certainties whatsoever. Dolt!

I haven't made an argument, I was merely ripping your baseless, bitter waffle to bits.

Unlike you, I've made no predictions about Everton as I've no idea where we'll end up.

btw - that's a crap insult & it merely confirms that you're totally spent <ok>

So you want to back your mate up on the basis of one result? 4pts from 6 against the Swans Is ok Its the max you can get?

so we won at their place In Sept and drew today that doesn't mean we will have a worse 2nd half season?

Oh yes the answer to your questian...

    Better than Liverpool did...Plank...

I really can't see it, we probably will get some good results, but we will then **** up in games we should be winning. I agree with Mito, 6th is more realistic. If we get that and spend well in summer then fourth the next season may be a possibility.

We just need to get things right, otherwise we will fall even further behind and be a generation away from catching up.

Who said anything about backing either argument? I was just enjoying the fact that you lot will be seeing your arse about dropping points in a game you would expect/hope to win.

Seeing replies like yours just makes it more enjoyable, plank,!

I think it speaks volumes that we haven't won three games on the trot in the league for a few years. It's funny, we have plenty of players with CL experience throughout the side, yet we are so inconsistent. Now, no team so far this season has set the league alight, it seems logical that Spurs or Arsenal will go on a run, they usually do. But - if you looks at Spurs last season.. They were cruising in third, then they completely fell apart, finishing fourth and ultimately ended up not qualifying for the CL. Point being (like Dave says) until it's mathematically impossible every team in around fourth will fancy their chances purely because you never know what's gonna happen. Who will finish fourth or even third remains to be seen, but each one of Spurs, Arsenal, Everton and ourselves can put a case forward.

No, I don't think we'll finish fourth, nor in the top six, it's not that we don't have the quality, I'm just judging it on our inconsistent form.. But under Dalgish in his first six months back, we picked up the second most points in the league under him, with arguably a worse squad than what we have now, so I for one certainly remain hopeful (or wishful) that we'll find some sort of form.

Not as dissapointed as you'd like to believe plank...

Like I said 4pts from 6 not so bad aganst the Swans on reflection...

And lets be fair you'd know an awful lot about dropping points In games you think you should have won<doh> And tommorow will probably one of them
