Stephens off, Fuller on. Strange move because Stephens has played really well today by the sounds of it.
FT 2-1 Phew, we have a win on a Saturday at long last. Sounds like a good, back to basics performance. Look forward to hearing from those who were there.
First since May, apparently. What a relief - always liked Eccleston, and by all accounts, he enjoyed his stay here. Very happy indeed with this win, sounds like we worked hard and put in a fine team performance.
I guess it was the fact he received a yellow card. Twitter views suggest Stephens and evina had good games. I hope AH backed his 13/8.
Happy to see us get a home win, as fortress Valley it ain't this season. Now if we can build on this and get up into nice, mid table confort I'll be a happy fellah.
Anyone who went to bloody Birkenhead to watch Charlton with the away fans when not even at the club is alright in my book. Great win for the team today. Sounded like a decent performance.
Hamer 7 Solly 7 Taylor 7 Morrow 7 Evina 8.5 (MoM) Wilson 8 Pritchard 7.5 Stephens 6 Jackson 7 Waggy 7.5 Kermit 7.5 Subs--- can't mark as they were not on long enough Evina gets MoM because he made Ince (who must be a good player if Liverpool are offering £5m) look ordinary!
Evina made Ince look very ordinary Both him and Hughes who are meant to be the Championships wonderkids this season havent looked all that this season, was more impressed with Harriott when he came on, bags of pace and could have given the Blackpool defence real problems had he seen more of the ball. Am curious to know what people thought of the Waggy foul in the first half when he looked clear yet no foul was given by the referee... I've known Waggy to dive in the past and by Jacko's reaction a few minutes later he was either (1) telling him to shut up moaning or (2) asking him why he went down?
Full report to follow, but on the Waggy thing, I instinctively thought he dived and I was sitting close to the incident in the East stand. My mate thought he was just clipped but either way he made a very theatrical landing and vociferous appeal. Jacko berated him for a full 30 seconds.
Pardon the typos. iPhone rather than laptop. Curates egg I thought. Very welcome win and some really good bits here and there. But I thought we were dire for long spells of the first half but I couldn't hand on heart say that any one player had a bad game. I know, I know, doesn't make much sense. Overall though, a welcome hard fought win. Everyone played their parts. Good first half from Waggy although anonymous in the second. Best games in ages from Kermit, Stephens and Wilson. Hamer had little to do but his kicking was unusually poor. Great cameo from Harriott. Solid games from Jacko, Pritch and Evina. Taylor and Morro held firm. So all in all a good day. But please can we have more of the proper football when we look very good and less of the hoof ball when we really don't! And a very good referee for once! Barely noticed him other than for the Waggy incident and I personally thought he called it correct. Disappointed in Blackpool. Take Ince and Phillips out and there's not much there. Ince had one moment of sublime skill with a disguised back heeler but otherwise thought he huffed and puffed and was well contained by Evina and Waggy. Was more impressed by Zaha. But I suspect Ince junior will be better in a good team Very valuable three points. Stephens waving goodbye as he went off I thought?
I had a feeling Callum was going to appear because I saw Ainsley outside the ground handing out his red pepper cards to the fans.
Harriott had a great little cameo and the crowd loved his stepovers and enthusiasm. I'm really pleased for Evina. He's improving so quickly that Wiggins may well have to be patient just as Evina was. One area we need to improve is that other teams seem to be able to pressurise our defense into giving the ball away just by running at them and forcing them to hoof it anywhere, our forwards never seem to achieve the same effect.
