AUSTRALIAN goalkeeper Mat Ryan is set to join Rangers on trial next Monday after a shoulder injury prevented him from travelling to Scotland this week.

The 20-year-old is highly rated in his homeland and has caught the attention of Light Blues manager Ally McCoist.

Pundits Down Under, who perhaps don’t appreciate the scale of Gers in light of their continuation in the SFL, have criticised the move.

But Ryan is keen to train in Glasgow and if his time here is successful, he could be someone the club looks to recruit when it is able to register players again later this year.

The youngster is currently contracted to Central Coast Mariners but hurt himself playing against Western Sydney Wanderers in the A-League on Sunday.

He could face Melbourne Victory in Launceston this Saturday and is then scheduled to make the trip to the UK.

Capped twice at full international level by the Socceroos, Ryan is being tipped for big things by observers in Oceania.

And McCoist has revealed he comes highly recommended by a number of his contacts in that part of the world, including Nine in a Row legend Ian Ferguson.

The manager said: “We’ve been informed Mat has had to go for a scan after a small injury last weekend and we’re hopeful things have just been put back a week.

“I’ve been told by his representatives he’ll be due to arrive in Scotland on Sunday night or Monday.

“We’ve watched videos of him and I’ve spoken to Fergie over at Perth Glory about him along with one or two of the boys in Australia.

“He’s had nothing but glowing reports. He’s a young goalkeeper with huge potential and I look forward to seeing him.”

By all accounts he is going to be a decent keeper.

By all accounts he will be a good goalkeeper but it will be with a more established club
    Than Sevco .

You know I really do look forward to the next old firm game at Parkhead regardless of the result. What do you think it will say on the front of the "official" programme and the tickets? There should be a lot of tickets left over all the same. Not because of school uniforms and all that, but because when the Hoops sell tickets to the Celtic versus Rangers fixture none of them will go as the game must surely only be imaginary. Will this apparently illusory fixture be acknowledged by the likes of Hoopy, Asbergatross, Rebel and those of a similar mind set?

Mr Green and James ex DR both said last summer Rangers have died. If not when do
Sevco propose paying the tens of millions they owe
Moses must thing he has an unusually long life span , if he expects to be around for the
next match between Sevco and Celtic, which of course will be the first. One think is
Certain Sevco will have like Rangers, they will be liquidated long before that.

I don't doubt that the Hun end will be full of genuine Huns - they will just be supporting a newer legal entity which bought the assets of the old liquidated Rangers.

Excellent I eagerly anticipate adding the Celtic versus Newer legal entity which bought the assets of the old liquidated Rangers match programme to my collection of memorabilia:emoticon-0105-wink: Your European run will prove beneficial in the funding of all the extra characters on the cover.

I've said this before as well Moses.

What's the chances that they take this as just another Celtic vs a Scottish team?

No overly great interest or hype from their fans?

    No windup songs/banners etc.

No former players/managers etc. hyping up the game.

The attendance would no doubt be similar to Celtic playing any other Glasgow team like Partick or Queens Park, wouldn't it. <whistle>
