Boruc's hilarious but if he starts costing us points then I won't be laughing anymore. He should be given a run of games, even if we do get a new keeper in January I don't think they'll be thrown straight into the team so he has plenty of time to prove his worth. 14 clean sheets in 36 games for Fiorentina can't be all down to a solid defence!
I'd stick with Boruc against Chelsea, and so long as he passes that test, I'd stick with him against Villa too, and then if he passes that...etc etc....all the way until we sign a new keeper, which will surely be some time this month. He's not good enough, but neither are the other two.
We are playing Russian Roulette with our three GKs...play until they make mistakes (usually just 1-2 games) then swap. Can't go on....if we don't sign another keeper then may as well give Boruc a few games. He fumbled at the beginning and then settled...however, Arsenal didn't exactly put pressure on him. All of these keepers are capable of a reasonable job, but aren't PL standard and they make errors you wouldn't expect becase they have no confidence. Need one of them to have a run of successful games.
Still don't think we can judge Boruc yet. You have to give a keeper a consecutive run of at least three appearances. Look at the way he came into the game just over a period of 90mins - granted relatively speaking he improved massively because he was horrendous first half! Davis and Gazza have had sufficient observation time to be able to say both for differing reasons are not up to it.
Problem is do you buy a keeper this month? Or hope one of the 3 steps up. If Boruc is to he needs to lose around 2 stone I reckon, Davis I think is just due to age. Gazza is because of the step up and how young he is, if it was me I wouldn't risk it and buy one any way.
Bet he thinks about the keeper more than any other position...most teams will just pencil the keeper in without thinking.
So am I , because if you were , you have proved you have WAY to much spare time on your hands ..........
The problem with all our goalkeepers at the start of the season was that we didn't have a settled defence playing in front of them, and more importantly, Jack Cork wasn't at the heart of the midfield protecting the back line. I don't think you can really judge any of our keepers fairly from that period. If Boruc gets a run of a few games now, without making any major cockups, he should keep the jersey for the rest of the season. We can still look for another keeper in the window, but if Artur comes through, we needn't necessarily go through with the deal.
To be fair to Boruc, Nigel threw him in at the deep end on National Tv against one of the best sides in the league for his first game in 3 months and Boruc with the knowledge that 1 or 2 mistakes could cost him his place in the side. Hardly surprising he was nervous in the first 10 minutes
Laura........We can all accept that you are not a Saints fan. You obviously have a high opinion of Boruc......No one is criticising you for that. No one on here is bullying you in any way shape or form..........You are right of course non of us have had the opportunity that you have to see him play. Unfortunately what we have seen has not been all that good to date although he did steady down as the game progressed yesterday. It is not your opinion of Boruc that has got up my nose it is more the criticism of Saints fans themselves. We do have varied opinions on him it is true......there is a lot of generalisation because of his past reputation grant you. None the less they are a individuals opinion right or wrong and they have a right to express it the same as you. They are no worse than your own fans!!
