I notice Malky was not making the after game comments yesterday. does anyone know where he was?
Let's hope he had to be somewhere else to watch our new signing for next week, (Who ever that might be).
On another point re the transfer window, looking at the papers this morning there in nowhere any mention of a Prem club targetting Whittingham, and a comment in the telegraph that Graham has no intention of playing for "Arch rivals" Cardiff City even if he does leave the jacks. Also apparently Fulham have offered £8 million for Bent so he aint coming either.
The field is narrowing, I supposed it will have to be Giggs after all. Oh well, you can't win them all.

Good team work though. Kerslake gave an interview MM would have given, just not with a Scottish accent.

It'll be interesting to see if anyone does arrive and if there is any build up to it. I'd be happy again if the first thing we know is the formal announcement.

If he was watching someone lets hope his back room staff have done all their homework and ticked all the boxes in the profile dosier, nad he was just going to make the final call before bidding.
We know from experience that they are looking at players all the time and that they have target lists so lets home the person is No 1 on such a list.

I think there will be 3 signings this month, 2 on loan ( including Lappin who will sign till the end of the season) 1 permanent, A striker, who can play up front on his own, who can also play as a two, and who can score goals (should be easy to find ). A strong midfielder (a Shaun Derry type) to shut games down and a Lappin for the defence.

I posted a link a week or so back saying Lappin was going back at the end of this loan (it may change but seemed pretty certain).

Can't see us adding a midfielder given the options we have.

We don't need Giggs. Great player in his day and could still offer a huge amount at Championship level, but his role is covered here and we have greater needs.

This Bent and us thing won't go away either. Fulham wont get him for a straight 8 mill - no way will Lerner lose a potential £16M on the deal from Sunderland. Jol knows Bent well from his Spurs days and could well persuade Mafco to stump up some more cash.

He's as likely to go out on a half season loan with an option to buy on a phased deal that would equate to something like an overall £15M package.

Don't count Cardiff out on this one. Being at the top of the Championship with a good prospect of Prem football next season hasn't done us any harm this past fortnight.

One fly in the ointment is that Lambert is reported to be treading on very thin ice. His departure could throw everything up in the air at Villa. He doesn't seem to rate Bent, but any decisions playerwise could be put on hold.

darren bent, lol, you're looking at a minimum of £12m, and probably £4m a year in wages, we couldnt afford that if we got promoted, let alone now.....

back on planet earth, i expect a centre back, left back and striker, if malky can find the right players at the right price then we give ourselves a fantastic opportunity to build upon the great first half to the season we've had, and finish off the job and get promoted.......

Planet Earth calling - things aren't always as simple as they might seem. Watch this space Swampy. :emoticon-0105-wink:

Being astute businessmen doesn't preclude calculated speculation. As if the rewards of Premiership cash weren't enough, they'd be dwarfed by the potential revenue from the Asian spinoffs.

I also get the feeling that VT's presence at practically every home game this season is a sign of his growing enjoyment of the game as much as an investment opportunity.

When you combine thorough enjoyment with immense wealth, some unexpected decisions can be made.

This is where he was. Hope he was talking about his transfer budget.

Mackay was talking to the media as usual in his pre-match press conference, having asked his assistant David Kerslake to deputise after the 2-1 win against Millwall.

The Bluebirds manager revealed he sat down with Malaysian investor Vincent Tan, saying: "He had to get away and there wouldn't have been time after I had talked to the press.

"We spent an hour chatting and I asked David to take over in the press conference."

I hope he left his chequebook as well. I doubt he was just wishing Malky a happy New Year.

Morning Sparkey, Happy New Year to you sir.

Given they speak every week on the phone and it's reported Tan is over for most home games, it was more than a general catch up.

3 ponts against Brum would start 2013 off nicely, we'll worry about signings tomorrow.

Hope to log back on this evening to find a lot of happy smiley faces on here - not a bloody inquest. <doh>
