Just thought I would join you on your rant...

The reason you can not have your pubs for smokers is because successive governments in this country have tried to do their utmost to destroy anything that was ever associated with the working classes. Taxing our traditional watering holes into extinction and then after realising that same taxation was failing to prevent us smoking, decided to ban it instead. Only after brain washing most of the population into being perfume smelling, health conscious, wannabe's. Yet while allowing the fast food outlets strangely to expand over the last 2-3 decades at an alarming rate (the power of McDonalds), we are not allowed the simple extractors that would clear the air indoors to allow non smokers and smokers to breath freely together, instead they would rather have us all gathering under some shelter, to suck in an even higher level of smoke content than they were ever protecting us from, while the few pubs left remain empty inside. Do not worry though the government continue to have our well being at heart (excuse the pun), now they are going to ensure their is a minimum price on alcohol. Tie this in with all the legislation already in football stadiums, no standing, no smoking, no drinking alcohol in view of the pitch and a camera watching your every behaviour you eventually realise the nanny state has already taken over. Anyway at least we will all happily live much longer, enabling us to work longer and pay more taxes and instead of passing on our inheritance, we will be able to pass it on to our private care homes that are nursing us while we all die gracefully peeing our pants.

I don't smoke mate never have done since I was about 14 but, I don't have a problem with people smoking around me. It's all down to the PC brigade under the guise of health issues, it's my life my choice so why can't we have that choice.

First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.

    Niemoeller.

Substitute with Drinkers, Smokers, Fatties, the Poor etc.

    Sound familiar?

    Divide and rule.

That's what governments do. They set us against each other using divisive rulings pretending they are for our own good.

PC is a hateful fascist method of control.

...and you voted for them (liblabcon)

I wouldn't mind if there was seperate indoor areas for smokers, but I love the fact that I can now have a night out and not have to breath other peoples fumes and not have to come home stinking of *** smoke..

As a lifelong non smoker and sufferer at the hands of selfish smokers, the pub ban was one of the best things I have ever seen happening in a social sense.

No longer do I wake up now with my clothes stinking of stale nicotine, my throat burning with the taste of smoke, or my eyes sore as **** from the rancid chemicals circulating around the pubs and clubs. I never have burn marks on my clothing where drunken smokers catch me while they inflict their self induced death wish upon us all. Pubs, theatres, cinemas, shops, restaurants, public buildings and public places are now healthy areas for everyone to attend and not the stranglehold of the pollutant bringers.

Should they ever bring it back (and they never will of course) that will be the end of me and pubs for sure. I wouldn’t be alone in that thought either. Far form it saving the pub industry it would kill it off totally in one fell swoop.
That’s my rant over as well? Lol

Without smokers pubs are dying, why should i be persecuted for a none smokers fancy, i pay my taxes for my pleasures, in the Netherlands they arn't as naive or stupid as to have total bans, half the bars and food places have smoking, guess which ones have the most people and are thriving, guess which ones are going bankrupt.

None smokers always had a choice go there or not, so in England smokers seek their pleasure away from the pubs except for the special occasion, I understand that none smokers dont want it, but why spoil it for the rest of us with total bans,

If your car broke down and it was pissing with rain miles from anywhere and your mobiles dead, would you accept a lift from a chain smoker, or take the moral high ground and walk 10 miles home.

or a Cheryl Cole look alike meets you and wants a ****, do you say no cos shes a smoker. double standards as ever

top one. apparently, now that smoking is banned on planes, the air we breathe in-flight is significantlyworse for us than it was when it was changed/filtered when smiking was allowed. i've stopped smoking but having spent a week back in blighty, i am gutted about the demise of the traditional pub. my old village local is a shadow of it's former self, so much so i could only handle one pint. my old man would be turning in his grave.......i hope there are some good pubs still out there in the mould of george orwells moon undr water.......

    I agree with you Talc.
Should it not be up to the landlord to decide which way he wants to run his pub? I personally think most would allow smokers in.

I'm with Cest and RAW in that, while it is other people's choice to smoke and fair play to them, I don't want to come home stinking of stale smoke, and don't fancy breathing in second hand smoke either.

Whereas this thread discusses the pub from the smokers' perspective, before the ban it wasn't really fair on non-smokers, as in each and every pub you'd be in a room full of smoke.

A lot of pubs do having awnings/heaters to keep smokers dry and warm whilst smoking outside, but I do get that it is obviously not as good as when you could smoke inside.. For me, a separate room for smokers inside the pub would be fine, like on the continent. They could then switch rooms at will, or stick in there all night, or just pop back to the bar etc.

the non smoking bars on in Amsterdam are shutting down like wildfire, most have now a room for smokers with pool big screen tv and waitress service for drinks, the other bars are normal smoke where and when you want.
