That is the amount West Brom are allegedly after to sell Chris Wood. We've already put in a bid over 1m and I can see this turning into a bit of a bidding war as many other clubs are also interested in him.

Should we go all out to get him as I see him as being the difference between us potentially making top 6 or otherwise a nothing season as we will surely drop away without his goals.

The chairman has said we will not be held to ransom and that there are other transfer targets should a deal not materialise. This is a player who will be out of contract in the summer yet I cannot envisage no one snapping him up in Jan, 10 goals scored so far.

It would be significantly more than our current transfer record of only 800k but surely unless he gets a career threatening injury the kid is only going to increase in value if we sell at some point.

I understand JB's stance but unless Wood wanted to go elsewhere I think letting him go would be a massive mistake even if it does look a bit of a piss take from West Brom.

So should we pay what ever it takes?

In the end if you saw a car at 10,000 and went to see the bloke, who then told you it was 15,000 what would you do? Tell him to **** off is the answer. The player has a price and if it's above us, so be it. Hendo will be back soon and KJ already has a back up plan, that's for sure.

It's a good shout MFC but we know only too well that JB won't be held to ransom, but if it's true that they want £1.5m then we're already out of the race <doh>

Let's just hope that the extras that we have offered are worth some way to the exta £500k that the greedy pricks want or perhaps we can haggle a bit more? <grr>

But this is a good car who will only increase in value and I seriously doubt the quality of this back up plan, hope I'm wrong as if we have a spare 1m to spend that should get a decent striker.

J.B. has said the offer we have made is 1m plus,,and should we not get wood that money will be available to buy an alternative <ok>
Dont forget we all wanted Punch,we all wanted Townsend,we all wanted Kane, now we all want wood <doh> Kenny certainly has a knack for finding the odd goal machines <ok> but they all came on loan they all left better players i just hope if Wood falls through Kenny buys the next one and done with <yikes>
after the Punch saga we should have had an agreement and price in place for wood before we took him on <ok>

maybe we have the service down to a fine art and thats whats making these strikers look good so maybe the next one will be just as good if not better <ok>

Would love him to stay but if not lets just move on <ok>

    IN KENNY I TRUST

I've had a change of heart over Woods, I believe if we were to capture his signature which I think is unlikely ,we have a better chance of promotion or at least the playoffs, he's young and will only get better and I would risk the
1.5 mill on him. Yes Kennys got the knack of making players a lot better than they were before, but new players have to settle in and while we know woods is young ,scoring goals, and his fee in the future I have no doubt will rise,it would be a good investment by us , and players who can score in this division are priceless , 1.5 to me suggests we should go for, 2 mill then it's back to the tranny window. The question is are we going to continue nurturing talent as we've seen for Someone else to come in and out bid us for underrated loan player or are we going to have to put in a decent bid to keep a quality player, only woods transfer will tell.

That's the problem - don't forget they orginally asked 500,000 and cos he's scored a few goals they up the price - if he had only scored 4 or 5 nobody else would be interested and the price would be the original 500,000. Don't forget Keogh scored a lot of goals in about 20 games last year but hasn't been so prolific this term (granted he's had personal problems and hasn't started most games this season) but he doesn't look so sharp to me this season as he did last. This could always happen to Wood _ think JB would put up the 1.5 if he was sure of getting his man but he won't be pissed about and I don't blame him so we will just have to wait and see - could come down to Woods desire to play for us or not at the end of the day<ok>

I agree Roar as we know he's settled in and scoring goals for fun but it's just hard to get your head round us splashing that sort of cash! <yikes>

Well Grumps he's said he wants to play for us so we'll see so here's hoping <ok>

I remember Punch saying that the only Championship side he wanted to play for was us and **** all came of that thanks to the ****ing godfather Don Cortese Corleone <doh>

Yes but that wasn't Punch's fault greedy chairmen aka Southampton, WBA who renege on previous 'agreements' are the biggest scumbags in the game imo - if you agree to something you should keep your word - no integrity some people - shame about Punch tho.<ok>

We had all this old toffee over Puncheon - we won't enter a bidding war, how dare they ask more money, blah, blah, blah.

This isn't a question of morality or fair play but looking at two questions - is the bloke worth the money WBA are currently asking so far as we are concerned and can we afford to pay it?

I had little doubt Puncheon was worth a million and none at all that Wood is worth 1.5 - if we can't muster the funding then fair enough, we will have to look elsewhere but lets leave out all this moral high ground nonsense.
