hang on, am I getting mixed up in syntax here? The silver bell is the oldest race in history is it not? The one run at Hamilton over 1m4f, but I guess the answer could be Lanark if we are talking past tense.

Hello, Bustino! Right with all three answers! And yes, Scobie won the first running at Doncaster with Old Tom for Peter Easterby. The trainer had booked him specially for the previous season's 7furlong Victoria Cup at Ascot- where he finished third but faded late on. Scobie said he came too early but, despite knowing that, I didn't back him in The Lincoln over a furlong longer; but sure enough, Scobie held him up longer and won at 22/1. I did back Scobie next year, though, and he won again on the favourite, Sam Armstrong's Riot Act who bolted in (Lester couldn't do the weight).

Montelado in 1993... cant remember which races though...

Spot on, redcgull! Montelado won the last race of the meeting(Bumper) and then the first race the following year (S.Novices). Well done!
